If you have anything against snow or cold weather, I would probably reconsider.

You'll be close ~30-40 minutes from the beach, granted it's not the ocean but lake michigan is really nice.

GR's not bad. I live in kalamazoo, an hour south. I head up to GR for concerts usually. They have a cruise there labor day weekend, which gets a big turn out. The Berger dealer on 26th (I think) is the place to be for lsx.. and any nice gm for that matter.

Also there is a drag strip in Martin, which is probably about a half hour south. It just got redone about 5 years ago and is one of the nicest tracks I've ever been to.

There is some ghetto-*** areas in GR, but there are also some real nice places. So just make sure you check the area out before buying/renting whatever.

The weather might suck, but the opportunity is nice... Trust me. So far it sounds like the weather is the only bad part about the place? With all of the car activities i hope it will offset the weather. I don't want to go anywhere near any ghettos. How is the cost of living there?

If you can entertain yourself with snow you will be fine (snowmobile, ski, hunt, snowboard) I live in New Mexico right now, and am trading in 9 month summers for 3 month summers in May (moving back to GR). Get a plow truck and plow driveways and parking lots for $300-$500 a night in the winter if you get bored with snow, that will cheer you up.

What will you be doing in GR?

Cost of living is on the lower side of the country. The housing market is horrible right now, but is a buyers market with $300-$400k houses going cheap right now.

Car scene was pretty good when I left in 03, the economy kinda has MI by the ***** right now so I do not know what its like now.

check out Michiganspeed.com, its one of the local car clubs.

I was just West of there in Grand Haven for almost a week, we go every year to see her family. They got a lot of snow out there, but the cost of living is low.

Im roughly a half hour from there. Not a bad place. Like said the snow does suck.

There is an aweosme tuner about 30 minutes from GR too.

If you havent driven in snow much this might not be a good idea, but theres towns like Grand Haven, Ferrysburg, Spring Lake, etc all within about a half hour of GR, you could live anywhere around there if you didnt mind driving a few miles to work.

Buy yourself a Mastercraft and a few wakeboards and wakesurfing boards. And a snowmobile.

Michigan is awesome in winter for snowmobiling. Our summer house is in Sister Lakes(Dowagiac), like 1.5 hours south of you I think. In the boat all summer, and snowmobiling through the woods and farmland all winter if you have a sled.

The Grand Rapids area and north of there (Traverse City) and places like that are BEAUTIFUL! There is so much land, lakes, trails, and cool ****. I love it. I'd pick up a couple wave runners and a couple snowmobiles, and you will be all set!

I used to live there, I always had something to do. So you shouldn't have a problem finding someplace to hang. The winters would suck if you don't like the snow. I just left there for xmas and they got hit with 8'' of snow in one day more if you lived closer to the lake. Get some good all season tires for a good DD and be prepared to store the SS. The annual cruse up and down 28th street is fun. Nothing like Woodward cruse though, but your only a few hours away from detroit. As for housing, its cheeeep.... I had a one bedroom at 750sqft and a single garage inlcuded for 480 a month, and it was in a very good area.
