What's it worth? '90 Caprice
Alright so I'm looking at a cheap beater for the winter and I'm looking at a '90 Caprice. It's got 100K on the clock and it's a V8. The body is in real nice condition but I haven't seen the interior yet. I'm going to call him sometime this week and talk to him but from what I hear it has all new brakes and suspension with the "police interceptor" package It's got some nice rims and tires on there but they're nothing outrageous. Just some 17's from what I can see from afar. I haven't looked at it up close yet.
So anyways I figure this; it's just about 20 years old with 100K on the car. He says he wants 4500 and I just about died. So my question to you is:
How much would you offer for the car? I'll try and get pictures up but who knows with me lol.

You can find cars way cheaper than that, I sold my one explorer for $1500 and there was nothing wrong with it other than a little rust under the rear fender that you couldnt even see it.

I know it's not even close to that amount. I also want something I can safely transport my daughter in as well. A couple of my buddies were saying no more than 1500 for it. It's a friggin' 20 year old car with 100 thousand miles on it. Just trying to get a ballpark figure before I go and talk to him.

I know I prolly would have laughed at the guy, I looked up other explorers yesterday after I saw this thread and I dont know what your looking to spend or what kind of car you want but an explorer would get around the same gas mileage. Im just a big fan of them, have had two, a 93 sold it with 165k on it and still have a 2000 with 110k on it and have never had anything go wrong with them.

go look for a 97-04 malibu. cheap roomy and safe. i got one from my sister for basically nothing because she was buying a new car and the trade in on it was only ~ $600 and they were giving her really good incentives so she would have basically given them the car. i got it for free but it needed a new intake manifold gasket (one bad thing about those 3100s) for $700. other than that it's low mileage, only has a little bit of rust here adn there and has working heat/ac.
here's one i just found on craigslist for $2600
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/1470904464.html
another one w/ 84k only $2700
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/1468898542.html
and there are some really cheap ones in the $1k range but they probably have high mileage. i got mine with only 103k. they may be on the bit boring side but i'd much rather put winter miles on that than my 95 T/A which is rust free.

I agree. Thanks for all of the help. I'm looking for something that isn't an eyesore. But I'm only willing to spend about 2 grand. I know I can get something in good shape for that amount. I need it to have good heat and last the winter. I'm gonna check out how much he will let it go for.

I must be confused again. The owner wants 4500.00. The buyer hasn't seen the car but is willing to pay 2000.00.
I thought everyone here felt DEALERS always screwed folks?
I was bored last week - drag racing is over. I visited the dealership. Sold the 91 Caprice with 96-98K for 2800.00 out the door.

I've seen the car but I haven't stopped to take a super close look at it. I've heard from the place that is letting him park it there; that he wants around 4500 for it. I'm just wondering on what to offer him. I was thinking of offering no more than 1700. Even if it was in perfect condition; it wouldn't be much more than 2000. As far as the 2000 budget goes I was talking about the Malibu post.

Nah man I ******* HATE fwd with a god damn passion. Every fwd car I have ever owned has taken a **** on me within a month or two of getting it. I checked them all out and BAM within two months they were toast. I've driven my ws6 in the winter and it isn't really a big deal. Just gotta take it nice and slow so rwd is no big deal for me. Besides it'll do me some good when I don't wanna take the ws6 out in the summer and **** too.

Yeah he is a ******* moron. I talked to him on the phone the other day and he was a cocky *******. Of course he doesn't know **** about cars and tried telling me what's what. I swear if I hear ******* "police package" one more god damn time I'm gonna slap the dude. I told him that car is nowhere near $3500 let alone $4500. He then tells me "that's not what most people are saying". Yeah well guess what *******; I'm not MOST PEOPLE and that's why it's still sitting for sale jag off.
