i did my cam swap on my own and i will also be doing heads myself when i get them. its actually pretty straight forward. if you can change a waterpump on an LS, then you can pretty much do the cam swap.

it took me about 8 hours total for the swap and that includes a few trips to advanced auto and a local chevy dealer for a new rocker arm bolt. that bolt was really the only problem i came across. bastard rounded out on me taking it off. had a friend help me with the springs since he did about 4 sets this summer lol
i did not degree the cam, i just installed it dot-to-dot and have not had a problem since. but then ive only put maybe 3k on it since the swap. it would be more important to degree the cam if your running something radical and would know for sure that PTV clearence would be an issue

Took me 12 hours start to finish with a Corvette a buddy & I did. Included spring swap. After doing it a few times I had it down to 9 hours with my own car again swapping springs Make sure you have the parts, a buddy when it comes to the a/c sliding back & forth. Tools are important to have ON HAND before you start

I was in the same boat, but ended up just doing the install myself. It was the first time I really tore into the motor and was able to do it in ~12 hrs of actually working on the car and I did the install alone. I also swapped out the timing chain and oil pump at the same time.
It would have been easier to have a buddy there to help removing the radiator, but I didn't want to wait around for him to show up.
If you have a free wkend, I would suggest following ls1howto and saving the install money for something else down the road.

That's what I want to do, but I'm affraid as hell of messing something up. My brother is willing to help me, but neither of us have ever done anything like this before. I'll likley end up going this route and if I get stuck along the way, I can always post questions here.

if you end up doing the swap alone, you can always push the condensor down or hang it with a bungy cord by the hood latch, just make sure you have a hood prop so it down crash on you.
dont forget loctite!!
