Default Is Illinois using a different salt this year?

Ok maybe its just my imagination but it seems like they are using some different type of salts on the roads this year. It seems alot chalkier and seems to build up alot more. I dont ever remember wiping piles of salt off of a car in the winter because of the streets.

Anyone else notice this or am I just crazy?

Seems the same as always to me. I heard they were testing a new type of salt in certain areas of Chicago last year, but I don't know if they went mainstream with it or not. Probably not though, I think it was more expensive.

That's why I leave my baby snuggles up in a car cover in the garage over the winter. No salt for me.

That's the #1 best way to fight salt. I do it every winter as well.

Well I've got my baby fairly well protected from the salt I think , just wondering if its something different this year because I have never been able to dust patches of salt off of my car in the winter before. At least if I am imagining things I'm not alone

No your right it is a different fomulation. They where using it for the past 2 years here & there. Now it seems more municipalities are doing the same. It is real dusty when dry, & IMO more corrosive.

I think they are using calcium chloride. It is much more effective at melting ice and also much more effective at rotting your vehicle away.

Holy crap if that's it that stuff is horrible! I remember we mixed some in water when I was taking biology in high school. Then, we took some aluminum foil and put it in the glass. The foil would rust/corrode almost immediately!
