I'll let you know what condition my rear is in once my Strange gets here. I ordered it through Billingsley Racing so my factory rear will be 100% in tact including the reluctor rings, backing plates, etc. If you can wait a couple of weeks I can probably get you a good price for it.

I went to a bone yard today and found a 98+ firebird with the 10 bolt still in it. If I remember correctly it had 78,000 miles on it. It was a 3.8L model with the ground effects and the orange de carbon shocks. I'm not sure, but I think certain 3.8L models had a special gear (3.42???) and limited slip with the handling upgrade. I could be wrong about the diff, but I'm more than willing to PM you if you want to know where to get it.

from what I remember form my V6 days..
if its a v6 look for the RPO code Y87 that will at least tell you if its got a Posi..
then look for the RPO for the gear..
GU4=3.08
GU5=3.23
GU6=3.42
v6's 95 and before were I believe all 3.08 open rears.
v6's after 96 went like this..
A4 with the Y87 it will have a 3.42 Posi rear
M5 with the Y87 will have a 3.23 posi
if its does NOT have the Y87 RPO it will be an OPEN diff (no posi) A4's had 3.08 gear.. M5's had 3.23
ohh and they were the exact same rearends in the v6's and v8 and are interchangeable with eachother just the same as the v8's. just got to watch the backing plates on the v6's because of the drum brakes many of them had.
