Default Gas or electric heater for my garage???

I want to heat my garage so I can work on my cars in the winter.

I have a three car garage which is fully drywalled and insulated and has 13' tall ceilings. Do I go with a gas or electric heater?

I will only use the heater when working in the garage. Otherwise it will be kept off.

I had heard for my size garage gas is the only way to go but now I am hearing that gas units are inefficient and electric would be just fine for a three car garage.

If anyone in the Chicagoland area can recommend an installer that would be helpful.

Electric will kill you, I have a 42 X 72 racecar shop, and just heating the office and bathroom with elect is hundreds of $$ depending on temp outside.
Gas or propane will probably be cheaper.

I have a heating company next door, he's very honest, loud mouth but honest.
What town are you.

I figured gas was the way to go.

I live in Schaumburg so may be too far from Orland/New Lenox but I'll take the #.

Thanks.

I do HVAC for a living and we install alot of Reznor units. I couldn't find a direct sight after a quick search, but here is a link I found that will give you a good idea what i'm talking about. http://www.djsonline.com/reznor_UDAP_Unit_Heaters.htm

We have one of those 80,000BTU kerosene heaters that he got for like $100. This is not the salamander type. Its round and tall.

With our 3 car garage and near single didget temps in about 20 mintues you start sweating in the garage.
Then you just turn it down.

It also does not burn the kerosene all to fast so you are not filling it 24/7

This is something for BIG garages but is overkill for small ones.

I know a guy that has one and when he was trying to thaw out pipes it warped one of our cabnets and it was a few feet away.

Thanks for all the replies. Been out of town so couldn't access e-mail.

I've heard good things about Hot Dawg units. I'll be doing some investigating...
