Default Help Proposing to my girlfriend!

Well we have been together for nearly 3 years and we have a little one on the way, so i picked out the perfect ring, and have how i plan on asking all lined up....one problem...how did you guys go about asking the parents for permission (what did you say)? lol any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, i know i could just sk her outright, but i think its the gentlemanly thing to do, to ask for permission, thanks guys

I called her father up and said I would like to come over so we could talk. So I went to his house and we sat down and had a beer. I told him I was going to propose and that I would like his blessing (not his permission, since I was going to do it weather he said yes or no anyway). He said it was okay, and wished us the best of luck. That was it. Straight and to the point, and I didn't make a big deal out of it.

I think asking for permission went out the window when you got her pregnant.

Good luck!

I called her parents up, the live about 6 hours from us. Congrats, I am sure it will all go well. Now you have to think of a way to ask her.

I got engaged a couple months ago. (YAY DuronClocker!) He didn't ask my mom (Dad is non-existent) ... in my personal opinion, my mother has nothing to do with who I love or who I'm going to marry, so there is no point in asking her! My mom approves, of course, but if she didn't ... wouldn't stop me!

Kudos for doin' it old school ... just don't see the point!! Good luck though!

I asked my father-in-law at a drag race, walking back from the end of the shutdown after reseting the world record and winning a national event. He'd also had a few beers.

Now, that's probably not the easiest set of circumstances to replicate, so I'd say just talk to him in person, and be straight up about it. Simple is typically the best.

I called my future in-laws, who I've always been friends with, and they were pretty happy for us.

A standup guy you are!

Some might understand it, AND SOME won't! It's all in the upbringing IMHO!

I also asked both my OutLaws(I mean in laws) I asked told them my intentions and asked for their blessing. Then we had a nice big cookout.

My wife and I went over to the parents house last year and I asked. He said yes since she is in love with me.

Then we told him she was pregnant. He hasn't talked to me since.

Would you still marry her if the parents said "NO" ? Does it really matter? From how you wrote your opening paragraph its sounds if you are marrying her because you got her pregnant. I dont think this is the case but that is how it comes across.

I say quit being a wuss and just ask the parents because I have a feeling you are just doing it out of respect.

Man up!
