I just left there in Jan. Cushy base. still kind of made me a little edgy driving by seeing the bedouins right outside the fence and I was just in a pick up truck with no armor. Big change from what I was used to.

Yea farmdawg my dad is there contracting (Yun Gunz is my brother). I am not too fond of Balad, too big and boring. Mess with that vette much before you left? Hell didn't you just get back when I did last time or you were just leaving I think?

Balad is like being at a remote like Korea more than a deployment anymore. I left for Tallil in Jul 07, got back in Dec, and spent all of 08 at home then left Apr 09, here til Nov then home for about 6 months then off again probably. Balad sucks so far this time, I was here in 06 and it seemed better.

Damon, good to hear from you again, no i didn't get to mess with the Vette at all before leaving, still paying off debt from the Camaro. Gonna leave it alone probably and get a new camaro in a few years probably. Wife likes the Vette more than the old SS and wants me to keep it, but I have ideas for other projects like my 65 SWB truck with a 408 or bigger and a Kenne Bell or sometihng with a new Camaro.

Dimed, I'm enlisted and work in ECES.

Default Balad 04-05

I tranisitioned through there for R & R and we landed there (UH-60 crewchief) all the time. It got hit with mortars and rockets everyday, all day. Good to see things have changed.
Enjoy the huge pool and theater if its still open.

I can't BELIEVE some of y'all are actually complaining about Balad. I understand it coming from Farmdawg cause he's AF LOL(sorry Mark, had to do it lol) but if your Army and bitching about THAT place, then you've never been anywhere without all the "creature comforts"!

I think the funniest thing about when I was there was the rare occasion that we would get mortared. Most of the Marines that had been there multiple times were just ignoring it, and the Army, AF and Navy guys were scrambling. Even funnier (and VERY PITIFUL) were the Army guys running in and checking the reports to see if the mortars were close enough to get their Combat Action Badge. ****. Whatever happened to getting it the old fashioned way like I did?: a good ole fire fight.

LOL yeah, I can't stand those people. Most of those "POAGS" want their CAB so they can go home amd make up sh*t...
I have people ask all the time if they can go on our route clearance patrols or raids and are stupid enough to say "yeah, I wanna get my CAB before I leave"!!!! Needless to say: they don't go with me. I tell them "You want a CAB, you should've joined a Combat MOS".
