Anyone here in the Marines?
I was thinking about enlisting in the Marines, mainly for the experience, as I want to join the FBI sooner or later. I have a couple of questions about how stuff works.
First, how do you go about selecting a job, or are you assigned one? I really would like to be in the Military Police, as I think I would get the most out of that.
What are the terms of enlistment (lengthwise)?
Does the armed forces still pay for college (and to what extent? any college?)?
I have more questions, but these are the ones I'd really like to know.
Thanks.

you take the asvap test and what you score on that they give you a list of jobs to choose from if they are open. yes they still give you money for college. an enlistment for active duty enlisted is 4 years.

if you are planning on going to the FBI or something like that, I would aim for something that will give you at least a secret clearance. Makes you a more attractive hire. If you want combat AND a clearance, I would be looking at something like field radio operator, but do your research and find out what is best for you, not what the recruiter says is best for you. This is kind of a tough time to play hard ball with recruiters because thier quotas are so low right now (most only have to put in 1 a month right now). Still, do your research so you know if he is filling you full of crap to get you to sign on.

I spent 9 years as a Marine. Infantry/Embassy Duty(held a TS Clearance) and then Military Police/Corrections.
I do not recommend you go into the MP corps if your goal is to be a Federal Agent. There is a big difference in how the military law enforcement works and how the civilian/federal side works.
