Hi guys,
Here is a list of some jobs open in my area for the Air National Guard. I qualify for all of them. Does anyone have any experience with any of the jobs in this list ?
I tried looking at the descriptions at about.com but they don't tell me much.
3E052 POWER PRODUCTION
2A5X1 AIRCRAFT MAINTENCE (R&R)
2A6X2 AEROSPACE GROUND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT
2A6X6 AIRCRAFT ELECTRICAL AND ENVIROMENTAL
4B0X1 BIOENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
1P0X1 AIRCREW FLIGHT EQUIPMENT
2A6X5 AIRCRAFT HYDRAULICS
2A6X4 AIRCRAFT FUEL SYSTEMS
Any help would be appreciated.

3E052 Power Production, is in the Civil Engineer Career field. Not a bad field to get into. You would be learning diesel mechaninc skills, maintaining generators, cable splicing, load testing electrical grid systems and other various high voltage electrical related things. That's pretty much a high voltage electrician career field. Active side deploys alot, to bases that are built up and remote FOBs to keep the place running. On bases with a flying mission, you are responsible for the aircraft arresting system barriers as well.
It can be a tedious job, but for someone that likes to get their hands dirty, it's pretty rewarding.

I am in the AF in tech school right now... active duty though. I would go 2A5X1, good job, and tech school will be fun. My buddies are here in school for that job right now... You get to go to Keesler Ms after basic for 2 months, then head to sheppard, for another 4... In Keesler you will go through a cool Electronic Principals course, then Sheppard you will learn the plane.
Then again, I am 2A0X1 (backshop avionics)... Currently in Sheppard. I graduate in December.

2A6X2- Aerospace Ground Equipment (A.G.E. is all anyone ever says). Minus the 5 years as a MTI I've been doing this for 14 1/2 years. Pretty much when a aircraft is on the ground anything that touches it (minus maintainers) is what we control/work on. From Diesel and Gasoline engines, Generators, Air Conditioners, Heaters, Bleed air and Hydraulics. We are the Jack of all trades in the Maintenance world. We are also the red headed step child of the Maintenance world as well, constantly getting abused and overlooked. But hey, we do our job because it needs to be done, not for the recognition. Our motto is "They don't get off, until we come." Because without A.G.E. the plane will never get worked on at all. It gives a lot to fall back on also when you get out of the military unlike some jobs like Ammo. Sounds fun but in the real world no one builds bombs or regular Crew Chief who kick the tires and clean the windows on aircraft and rely on the specialist to do everything else on the plane. Maybe they can all move up to New Jersey and get a job at a full service gas station when they get out (just a friendly stab to any Ammo or Crew chiefs that might see this, from your friendly A.G.E. guy). Honestly the best thing for you to do is get with the recruiter and ask if he/she can take you on the base during drill weekend and visit each of these shops/work centers. Active duty would never have that option but guard/reserves have a lot more understanding people that would work with you on that. Then you could see for yourself what they do. Good luck in the hunt and keep us posted on what you get.

Since when do Heavies Crew Chiefs go to Keesler for tech school? I am a 2A571, and never went there. Straight from Lackland to Sheppard, then follow-on to Charleston for C-17 FTD. The C-130 guys spend like 6 months at Sheppard, then Little Rock for follow on.

why ? Its the ANG and those were the only jobs available. Its not like its my fulltime job or anything.
Anyways, I picked the Aircraft maintenance job and got a 20k bonus. I'm still waiting on some paperwork though.
Maybe after my time in the guard I will go Active...

They've been doing it for a long time now. I came in over 14 years ago and there were people that came in month after me in the same career field getting bonuses for 6 year enlistments. Re-enlistment bonuses are overdone in some career fields I think, but they change who gets them almost monthly now.

If you like operating, its hard not to like your maintenance folks...they keep you operating...in most cases anyway. I enjoy operating myself...but I have the utmost respect for those that keep my equipment working outside of what user troubleshooting and maintenance I can do. Just sayin'!

Im a 2A5X1 and if you want to travel and make extra bucks for your ride than that is the best bet out of your choices there. I been a flight line guy though for 13 yrs. Made a lot of extra money on the road and that is something to keep in mind. I guess you can stay w/ the rest of the people on the ground that makes fun of crew chiefs but I am in it for the traveling and extra on the average 8K extra a year for going to cool places. Just saying...........

I've been a flightline maintainer for 15 years and wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm a F-15 crewchief and have been there and done that. I've been on over 30 TDY's and 7 deployments from PSAB to Afghanistan. Don't be one of those IYAAYAS ******** that don't do **** or ******* fuel shop non-ers. Flightline maintainer is the way to go. Everyone will hate you cause you'll have the shittiest looking uniform, smell like JP-8 and always but bumped to the front of the line. Yeah, expect 12 hours shifts in the shittiest weather but ready to party like a rock star. You go where the jets go. It's a good ol'\boy club and if you can turn a wrench you're in it. Does it suck....suare it does until your tdy to Hawaii for 6 weeks or Thailand for a month or Australia. Everyone is going to say "My job is the best" but let me tell you, when I have Metals Tech, S/M, Fuels, Life Support, Egress come up and tell me that my job is awesome...you know you done something right. So **** all you non-ers that work 9-5 and no weekend duty. I'll just sit back and sip on my Mai-Tai on Waikiki after working a 4 hour duty day and all our jets landed code-1!

i am a 1W0X1...one of the most hated people in, behind Fianance, Med, and Personal (the people you have to kick the *** to get to do any type of work)...Weather Forecaster. the career is awesome, and i can have the best of 3 worlds. i can be a desk jockey at an air force base. i can go army support, and go and their TDYs, deployments, and play war. then if i really get a wild hair, i can join AFSOC and go jump out of planes, and do any Spec Ops training out there i want.
