Believe me Brother, college was forefront on my mind. However since we often went to the field for 2 and even 4 week stretches, if I missed a test or assignment and my grade dropped, I'd have to pay my enrollment fee an I'd be dropped anyway. Going to the field took priority over everything, even hospital specialist appointments to me command. I was in Iraw at 18 in '03 and went back at age 19, turned 20 on a patrol. I didn't think I was gonna see the next week much less the next year. I tried reenlisting to MCT Instructor but the career planner sat on my package until all positions were filled just so he could force me to Counter Intel. With MCT I would have been non-deployable and could complete a lot of the college I wanted. When I say my unit didn't let anyone do anything outside their schedule, I'm not kidding. No one in my Guns Plattoon could do ANY college and even the guys that did the base football had to report to regular PT before their practice. So the two guys that tried that gave it up quick. There's lots more I coulda done back then but I didn't have the knowledge that I have now and the information, if not withheld, wasn't passed. Sunday's game plan always looks bad on Monday.
I'm in Jackson, TN. The closest of those cities is Nash at 3-4 hour drive. If the job were good enough, my family and I wouldn't hesitate to move tho. I'd take any help I can get.
Getting into the VA system wasnt too bad. From registering and getting first Compensation was only around 8 or 9 months. What has me mad is that they've so far disregarded me medical record which includes Naval Dr's official diagnosis and they even lied about what I'd said to their therapists and C&P Dr's about my issues. For example: I get 2 disabling migraines a week. They wrote that I get 2 in 6 months. By their books more than 2 per month is the max rating of 80%. Because of their lie I have a rating of 10%. Similar for my PTSD. I was diagnosed during active duty with tendinitis in both knees now they say that diagnosis doesn't exist even tho I have a copy of it. They have denied my claim despite my pain and problems. They even prescribed me meds for it! So yeah that's frustrating. I served proudly and honorable with my neck stuck out and life on the line and for that I now suffer. The VA needs reform.

Oh and sorry guys, I don't mean to turn this into some kind of "pity me for me problems" thread. I'm sure I not the only one with the same or similar problems and I hope as we find resolutions with eachothers help and knowledge, other may learn and be spared at least SOME of the frustration. Active duty NCOs, I charge you with the task of educating your Marines about non-military issues like job seeking, enrolling in college and how to use the VA system. The info provided me while I was in was minimal or lacking entirely depending on subject. If only I knew then what I know now, I would have been MUCH more focused in those areas instead of the RPM and muzzle velocity of a weapon. I never thought of any of that crap in combat anyway! Hahaha

Semper Fi Devil Dogs.
Anyone interested in an Interceptor flack? I've got a new (yes new) vest and groin protector with used collar and throat pieces. I'm lookin to get $500 shipped but taking offers. I just don't need/want it anymore. It's Coyote tan. Figured I'd post it up here in case someone needs it for CIF or lost one.

sgt from camp lejeune, just got back from deployment with 1/10. saw a few posts from guys who served with 1/8, who we shot for a couple times while i was with c btry. got a buddy who was with 1/8 sniper plt now. also shot for 2/8, 2/9, 3/9, 2/1, 2/3, and 3/8 who was with the meu at the time. even after 7 months a lot has changed around here, toby's now has good looking strippers, unlike when i got back from iraq in 09. anyone interested in buying a c5 vette? gotta fix the line going to my a/c compressor and a belt tensioner, but when that's done i'll still race it til i sell it hehe. any other guys still in the area?

Getting ready to move back to Actionville for the second time in my career and what could be the last if I decide so in a few years. So we will see what is in store. Hopefully another deployment to some shithole again! After living a few years in Europe it makes you realize a few things.

Former Sgt of the Marines Here...and I get the feeling I'm a lot longer in the tooth than most of you..Got out in Dec of 83..
In addition, our son served in the corps as well, and did 2 tours in the Sandbox...he's been out about 4 years now, and works for me..
Now I'm sportin the old School ride, that's about to get the LSX upgrade, so I'm trying to increase my knowledge base about these motors
