Default Infantry or MP?

Ok here is my story I was active duty for 5 years got out, and now Im in the Guard. I hate the Gaurd Im still in an Infantry unit, but its a Mech. unit with Bradlies, I hate beeing Mech. I was Airborne befor and I loved it. Dont get me wrong there was no limit to the suck but, some how now its worse.
So last week I went down to the local recuiter to ask some questions. I told him that I wanted to go back active. He said that I could probley only go into the big 7. I said what are the big seven let me guess all combat arms. He said yep. I said ****!
So now I have to wait for the recuiter to get back with me about jobs out side of combat arms, so in the mean time I thout maby you guys could shead some light on the subject.
I want to go back to an Airborne unit i.e. 82nd, 501st, 173rd, or the 509th. I can only think of two combat arms jobs I want MP and Infantry. Cant go wrong with old 11B, and not to meanchion maby a bounes of 20,000 to 30,000 to stay 11B.
Any feed back from MP's or Grunts would be a great help.

I spent 3 years at Fort Hood in the Cav w/the Abrams tanks and I loved that job - I spent a few days cross-training with mechanized infantry every couple FTXs and I must say that job sucks. If you don't get offered 11B - go Armor - 19K. Much nicer life than a mech grunt and a pretty nice ride

Well they both suck. I guess if you want to shoot **** up be a grunt. I know first hand that being an mp...at least in the Marines sucks the most ***** that have ever been sucked on at one time. All they do is **** with your off time with bullshit training and court and anything else that they can throw at you to make the unit look good. While in the end your marrige is struggling because you never see your wife and you get pissed at work for it which leads to shitty work done by you...but the military isnt smart enough to add those things together.

Stay 11B or switch to 19D is you want Infantry like **** man. **** the MP route. You'll hate it.

19D (Cav Scout) it's more up your lane. Can even get back to Bragg and do some jumping again.

And your Recruiter is FULL OF ****. Anything and Everything is waiverable. Because of the war, combat arms and MP's are a hot comodity. Being in Infantry isn't too far removed from being an MP right now except the level of BS you have to deal with. ******* peace keeping.

I'd look into 19D, or a 13F. You'll probably hate the Arty mentallity so I'd stick with 11B or 19D. BUT, push that lazy ******* recruiter to get a waiver. Also retake your ASVAB, Should have too anyways. That will open up more doorways for you. All MOS are hurting. Just some more then others.

And for the last time, EVERYTHING IS WAIVERABLE. lol.

Are there some MPs here that could tell me what it'd be like in the NG with that MOS? As I recently got rejected from my intel AIT, I have to reclass and actually, MP is highest on my list of consideration. Just don't know what to do.

Well I see that things never change you can take the man out of the infantry, but you can never take the infantry out of the man. I would like to here some more no bull **** info about 19D cav scout. Tat may be a rout I would like to go, but I would still like to go back airborne so, I need some more poop? As far as the MP slot I think all of you feel the same way that I do, they suck. I want a change of pace but that may not be the best rout for me. I am open to any other sugestions.

Ok smokey here's my 11 years as an MP story As with any MOS it has it's ups and downs. On active duty while i was at Ft. Bragg in the 82nd, it was ok but this was in the mid-late 90's. Did a tour in Germany which was the best assignment i've ever had, we worked 12 hour shifts, 4 on/4 off Left Active back in 1999.

I would say overall it was a great experience and worth serving people and community on the base. People who talk smack about MP are the ones getting in trouble by them for various reasons, i.e...speeding and DUI's. It's not the most beloved MOS in the Military but it is the most feared because of the power we have in Garison and on the battlefield with POW's. We can correct any one on army regs weather it be waring the uniform or commiting a crime and that includes federal and local.

But in the guard, it's not that easy. Here in California, they are getting deployed like hot cakes!!! but i just came back from Iraq in November and let me tell ya that those who depended on us for convoy escorts and security, where kissing our asses!

Overall i would say go for it and don't worry about the deployments. It's a good field and a respected field. Everyone wants to be an MP but most won't admit it

Oh I never wanted to be an MP. I have some army buddy's that are MP's, so not all are bad people. There is just a level of BS in that MOS that I'd rather not be a part of.

Here at Hood, the MP's are the most crooked bastards on the Base. ****. 7-9 drug house busts, 6 were run by the MP's. A bunch of bad apples running around this area.

The main reason most don't get along with MP's, is the attitude that most portray. They become drunk with power. In the real world, most Cops are atleast 22-up. They have stress test and other situational tests that determins if this person fit's the bill. In the Army, it's whoever they can get to fill the slot good or bad. So, there tends to be a TON of ******** that ruin the whole MP Corp's appeal.

I'll dig up what info I can on Cav Scout's. Have done some cross-training with them. Good bunch of guy's and light infantry can get along with them pretty easily. It's a light based MOS like 13F and LRSD type unit's. I'm recommending it over 13F mainly becuase you probably won't like the Artillary Mentality, BUT the Cav mentality is something you would more then likely relate to.

I'll get back to you on that stuff.

Oh yeah, I do know they are hurting for People. There are some nice Bonuses out there for that MOS. I'll get the best accurate info I can. I hate it when a recruiter wants to try and BS someone into a route and career choice that doesn't fit the life style of the person in front of them. It's plain lazy and deceptive.

I have a question about the drug houses you mentioned. Are those houses ON the base or off?

I've busted plenty of E6-E9's for various reasons, like smoking pot and doing LSD. Smokey don't be surprised at anything a "human" being can do, for most people it doesn't matter weather or not they're in the military, it's the addiction

Alright... here we go. First, I am an ex Army First Sergeant who retired and recently came outta retirement because I missed it. I say this to let you know I don't have just a few years in. I am also a badged recruiter, and those were probably the most difficult years of my life. Whoever says that the recruiter is bullshitting about the combat arms enlistment obviously has never been a recruiter, but thinks they know all of the USAREC regulations. Prior service personnel with more than 4 years of active duty, who want to re-enlist after completely getting out are GENERALLY forced to enlist at the needs of the Army. The recruiter has ABSOLUTELY NO incentive or personal stake in what MOS you re-enlist for. GCA, PS and other quotas were done away with in USAREC in 1996. All a recruiter wants is bodies, any qualified body. If he/she thought that giving you the choice of any MOS you wanted would get you to sign, THEY WOULD! Their hands are tied, however, due to USAREC and DA guidance. Bonus' change, but the general rule of thumb is that prior service members over 4 years will not get a $20,000 bonus. MAYBE a much smaller one. As far as MP is concerned, that MOS is always looking for people, but only because the requirements and background investigations are so very strict. That is probably the single most requested MOS in the Army. The garbage about putting anyone they can into that MOS just to fill it is incredibly wrong. People walk away from MEPS regularly because they want one and ONLY one MOS, MP, but they can't qualify because they have too many speeding tickets, or SMOKING tickets. That's right, I said smoking tickets. Very common in most states. The selection process is stringent and not just a "Hey you, I want you to fill THIS MP MOS." As a former police officer with the Portland, Oregan Police Department I can tell you that the selection process for civilian LEC is no more restrictive than the Army's. Do what you want, and have damned fun at it Firehawk, don't let bad and irresponsible information steer you down the wrong path. 11B is a great MOS and if I was younger I would do it all over again. Instead, I am an Manager of Information Services with the Oklahoma Military Department. The Guard has treated me good, as well. Different thangs fer different folks. If you have questions that a qualified individual can answer, and has no stake in your enlisting, just contact me. I will be PROUD to help all that I can.

I dont think the Stykers would be a bad move but, it is still Infantry and Im just not sure that is a game I want to play. The more I think about it I think MP would be a bad call. It's just not for me, maby Cav Scout is more up my ally. Dose any one know if there is a large population of light Cav Scouts, I would like to stay away from the Bradey, and in an Airborne slot. Thanks for all input still dont know, still need help. I am supposd to go to memps after my paper work gets cleared by my company this weekend. If there are any 19D's out there give up the dirt so I know what Im getting into. Thanks
