Hey guys, I'm an F-15 crew chief and I wouldn't trade it for anything! I have gone on more that 20 TDY's/deployments from Alaska to Singapore, Korea, Australia for a month, the PI etc etc etc. Yea, we work long hours in the weather but I work with some fantastic guys and our supervision takes care of us. Are there better jobs out there? Yea probably. But I love what I do and I think I'm pretty good at it (I won the Leo Marquez award for NCO in 2005). I worked at 48th EMS in Phase and it was a blast. I don't speak for all crew chiefs but I love my job!

one where you don't have to deal with aircraft or munitions. Get into something transferable to the civillian world. Anything medical pretty much works out. Now i wish i would've taken the X-Ray Tech job. I work Munitions and there isn't much to do in the civillian world.

I pump gas... I think I might just get out and screw the whole retraining and going through all that BS again. I've had a good 4 yrs so far with 2 yrs lft but I hate moving all the time. Deployments are good and the money for me isn't bad but I could use more money.
POL is getting rid of 550 jobs so don't rely on a easy job like fuels to crosstrain into. I think I might have a good job lined up. A guy thats worked for the this construction company just surpased 120k for the year. maybe I'll go do that instead.

Like a couple of others have mentioned try for FE or Loadmaster. I was a jet mech on RC-135's and A-10's for 5.5 years before I crosstrained to an FE 13 years ago. Best deal going! You get to do some cool stuff (and some not so cool stuff) but it is alot better than being stuck on the line or in some backshop forever. Everyone goes to the desert (either OEF or OIF) nowadays. When we deploy, the MX guys are stuck working 12-14 hour shifts just about everyday for the whole rotation. Ops on the other side basically only works when we have to fly. More is expected out of you but in the long run you live a better life.
Don't let people sway you by saying it is harder to make rank. Yes, the cuttoffs are higher, but if you can make rank in your old AFSC, you can make rank in any other AFSC. Studying is the key, they don't give it away- in any career fields. I was on C-130's out of Little Rock for 9 years and have been in AFSOC on MC-130E's and now on the new MC-130W. My worst days as an FE is alot better than my better days in MX. You get treated alot better in Ops than in MX. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

I was an AGE RAnger for 8 years then did all I could do in the job, got bored and started looking elsewhere. If you want a rewarding job then come down to BMT and be a MTI. I've been down here for the last two years and love the job. The pay sucks like anywhere and the hours are even worse, but you get used to not eating and not sleeping. I can't think of anything else I'd rather do in the AF besides this. Plus the car scean in SA is pretty nice.

I was thinking about FE load or boom but after I heard that they are pilots bitches **** that
I'm a C-5 Loadmaster stationed at Travis and IT is the best ****** job in the military..... and being on a C-5 although a PAIN IN THE *** to load is a ****** per diem machine...
Don't crosstrain into the loadmaster career field if you hate any of these things:
5 star hotels
per diem out the ***
10 months per year of tax free and hostile fire in your pay
crew rest in thailand,hawaii,guam, etc
women from EVERY country
getting treated like royalty at every base
with aircrew we have regulations that protect us unlike ANY other career field. If i'm in pre mission crewrest my squadron commander can't even call my house if he wants to... and i get 4 days off after I get back from a 14 day trip. C-5 guys DO NOT deploy (IE NO TENT CITY EVER) and we go on 14 day TDY's and then come home...... it's a badass job...
