Not true...I used to be an AF helo crew chief assigned to several combat search and rescue squadrons. Being we worked closely with the PJs I've seen many SrA (E4) PJs. I assume Combat Controllers are the same way.
To the original poster, I agree that he's full of **** about being a SEAL. Real SEALS, or any other SF folks for that matter, usually don't brag about that kind of stuff.

Call the ****** out in the office, You'll find its quite humerous there were a couple people here where I work who claimed to be SF. I've met 1 person that I know of who was in special forces and I didn't even find out about untill a couple of weeks ago and we've been friends for a couple of years.

Yea I got his full name and SSN so I will run it and call him out. I just hate seeing posers. Hell if you served be proud and don't lie about it. I've been in the AF 20 years and i'm not in the Special forces, it takes a different breed to do that. But thanks for all the comments.

i was in the navy for 6yrs as an AO (aviation ordnance) and have never heard of a rate like that, nor have i ever met an e4 who was a seal. and i got to host team 2 on my ship, in my mags. and was stuck with them for a month or so on cruise. they ambushed me one night while inspecting my mags during lights out. bastards. anyway, dudes full of ****. you don't let it be known that your a seal. wether your active duty or not. if you meet a real one, they are a blast to bar hop with. though their war stories tend to be a little better then yours.

To answer your question everyone is right, if he really was apart of a special unit he would never tell anyone, he would say "yeah i was in the navy" but never say exactly what he did. expecially not brag about being a seal like someone said they don't do that. as for rank adavncement usually for AF its to E-4 for all PJ, TACP, CCT. etc.

0412 is a Naval Enlisted Classification (NEC) similar to Army MOS's.
The format you gave it in is this: STS-0412 BQQ-5/5 (V) Submarine Sonar Basic Maintenance Technician which is a standard C school for a Sonar Tech.
None of this is special forces related. The NEC for a SEAL operator is 5320 and you can be an E3. However STS is not a qualifying rate. He would have had to convert to an approved rating. So ask what rate he is/was. If he says STS then you will know.
