Hi, I just joined the DEP program in October and will be leaving for BMT June, 17th, just a few weeks after I graduate HS...anyways I joined for 6yrs..
I always wanted to be a Fighter Pilot, or fly in them so WSO or something like that. My recruiter told me I could become one by getting my bachloer degree in basically anything then applying for Officer Schooling but that seems like it would be really hard to do because working the job and schooling at the same time.
My question is has anybody done that here? And is that the correct way to do it?

Its definitely do-able in the AF, do your school and AFSC at the same time. There was a guy in my shop, SSGT finished his Bachelors in 2 years and the following year his Master's degree through SIU (Southern Illinois University). You got to be REALLY MOTIVATED and DISCIPLINED to get this thing done(pretty much no social life). After all of that get a package for OTS.

Or you can even do your 6 years. Then go to college and try and get a degree in 4 or less. You'll be 28, and still have 2 years or so before the age limit cut off for pilots. I wouldn't suggest that route, but if need be thats one choice.
Best bet is work your *** off and get your degree during those 6 years you enlisted. Then get ur packet in and go for OTS and a pilot slot.
You know what AFSC your getting? Or just letting that go for chance?

Just be aware that most squadrons will require you to finish your 5 level upgrade before you are allowed to start school. And also i believe the list of degrees they accept for commissioning is much shorter than it used to be, so just any degree doesn't work anymore.
If you want to plan to do this it is definetly do-able, but just remember it is all on you to motivate yourself and get 'er done.

Haha, hekk no! I was smarter than that the four jobs I choose at MEPS were Tactical Aircraft Maitnence, Propulison Systems, F-15 Avionics, F-16 Avionvics but they ended up putting me just in the mechanical aptitude field or whatever so I guess I get to pick any job in the Mech. field when I go to basic. I had an 87 Mech aptitude is that good?
Is there any certain one the would have been better to choose?

just remember its going to take about 2-3 year buy the you do basic, your tech school, and get your 5 level then you need time to take classes, on the flight line thats going to be really hard!!!
or pick a field that is not as demanding
i think you would be better going to ROTC

Well whats easy in the mech field? I would really like to work on Fighter Jets though...
What do you mean 2-3 for basic?
Since I signed for 6 they said in 20weeks ill be E3 automatically. True?

Its easier to just go to college and join ROTC but your way is do-able.
The F-15's may not be around much longer I think, pretty sure 4XX of them are still grounded and might be scraped.
When it comes to engines I know a guy that just went from 16's to KC-135 engines and went from tearing down engines to the bone to going to just doing basic checks because all that work is starting to go to the depot now. I know a guy that was F-16 avionics and liked it and now going intel (both above people at an ANG base that just lost its jets).
If you like fixing things go crew chief, if you like wiring and electrical stuff go avionics.
Get it in writing before you go just incase so they can't throw you into a job you don't want or will hate.
