Some things don't change much. POG was a term I first encountered in a novel about Marine grunts.
I was a REMF in Viet Nam...32E...suppt for 25TH ID until they left in late 70. We left in Jan 71 after shipping-out the site the ARVN were supposed to inherit. It's true that grunts hate REMFs but if I was 11B I probably would have felt the same. We got harrassed with gas and one time by a M79 HE round.
There's a lot more Twinkies and **** on the camps then back then but the idea is the same. No females except for locals from the village.
I hadn't heard of FOBit before. What's kind of funny is a friend just got to Bagram as a carpenter with KBR a couple weeks ago. He said he'd be going to FOBs soon. He's not a veteran but he'll get the idea of support vs line, etc.
Yeah, support is important but it still makes you feel crappy. Also there's different levels of REMFdom;being stationed at Cu CHi was different than having the same mos at Long Binh.
God bless,folks.
