Arrow Any aspiring photojournalists here?

I'm on a talent search for a new project. Anyone here interested in shooting car features and doing write-ups on them? Pay isn't much, but it could be a good way of getting your feet wet in the industry.

Primarily, we need pro-level photographers with good camera gear. Digital SLR camera would be mandatory. I'd be willing to coach/train the right people to take magazine quality shots. The ability to write good articles would be a bonus, but not mandatory.

If you are interested, post a link to your portfolio of images, as well as your city/state. We will contact you if we feel we can use your work.

With my camera, It'd be something akin to bringing a plastic butter knife to a gun fight. It is something I would like to get down the road. Got an eye for it, but not the equipment.

That said, about how much would an acceptable camera run me?

500 to 1000. For top notch stuff.

Looking into getting a better camera soon, only using film at this point in time. I'll probably hit you up if I can get my hands on one in the next couple months if your still looking.

Thats a big time negative. D80 - d90 kits cost $1300 or so from a real store. Ebay may be cheaper. And real pro stuff lets just say spending $2K-$5K on a body and one lens is getting away cheap.

you're looking at $500-1000 for the body, add a couple lenses, a flash or two, a tripod, bag, and other misc. items and you're going to be looking at spending $5k pretty quickly. I don't quite have that much into everything that I have and none of my equipment would be considered "professional" equipment. But I've done my research and found equipment that performs well at a bargain and bought nice used equipment to save as much as I can.

In comparison to what he has now a rebel or 40D would be considered pro IMO, I never really looked into cameras like that. Since there's no real point in spending that much money on one unless your pulling in money for shoots, and in a year or two the technology will be obsolete anyway.

Cannons are a bit cheaper no? A 40D would set you back about a grand last I checked, body and lens.

You talking Canon 40D? Yes, that will be over a grand once youre shooting.

Nikon, D40. You can find those on sale for around $500 if you shop hard enough.

Top-dollar gear isn't required for shooting vehicle features. I did very well with my old Rebel XT and some good lenses. Used that combo for two years while shooting for GM High Tech and Chevy High Perf. I still use a Canon 30D now, works great. Lenses are just as important as the camera body. You can probably pick up an XT, XTi, or XSi for pretty cheap, but the lenses will cost more. I'd recommend the Canon 10-22 wide angle and the Canon 28-135 IS for starters. Polarizing filters are a must, get one for each lens.

Keep the submissions coming. We'd probably like to have at least 10 good shooters around the country to get us content. This will be for a new automotive website, basically an online magazine.

I work as a graphic designer full time, and would be happy to help you out in the central Oklahoma area if you're interested (I've spoken with you a couple times in PMs)

I have a Nikon D40x with a kit lens, but feel I have a decent eye and I'm definitely interested in learning more about shooting cars.

Here's some untouched-right off the card shots from the first time out with this camera last weekend...

I'm also in OKC and I would be interested in writing in tandem with Photochop's photography. I am a mechanical engineer by training, and I have some experience with technical writing (editing SPE papers, etc.).

I'll be in Tulsa in Feb. I've got a nice camera(D80) but I don't have the experience yet to do the quality you're looking for Tony. That would be a dream job, if only on the side. Maybe try this again in a year or so? I would kill to have an article and pictures in a car magazine.

Uhh? I spent 1300 on my D80 kit with a pile of other stuff from a Ritz Camera, and you can definitely go cheaper online. The D80 is cheaper now, obviously, because of the D90 release. I saw a D80 with 18-135 kit lens for something like 799 locally.
