Nothing wrong with it when used properly.
Here are a couple of my old car. (I didn't put that fart can on there, it was like that when I got it. Although it was a full 3 inch turbo back)

Thats called vignetting in the 2nd one. And the first one was the dodge tool. I'm not particularly worried what is considered nasty and what isn't as long as I like the effect.
Heres another thats sort of an HDR since i sort of used two exposures:

Depends on the shot. With the first one I think I did. I was going for that whole semi-dreamy look. While "the rules of HDR" say its a nasty picture, I really enjoy the effect and that has been one of my most popular pictures.
But like I said, it depends on the shot if I use photomatix. It has a few looks its good for and then there are lots of looks its terrible for. I've done some hdr's manually combining them too. Its all about what you are looking for in the particular shot.
It's just a 250 dollar point and shoot I got a while back. Though it does produce some pretty nice pictures. Its an Olympus C-7000. Has full manual controls and such, but I'm looking into getting a dslr soon.
Heres another that I took at a local car detailing shop. Don't worry I'm not a big fan of those cars, the owner just wanted me to take pictures of all of them in front of the shop.

Yeah... I had an Olympus, but it didn't have the full manual mode... Ended up getting a Canon EOS XSI (450D), loving every minute of it... I've learned so much in the past month, it's unreal...
