this might be a dumb question and an old one at that.. but why the hell doesnt GM just plop the ls3 behind an a6 like in the corvette? i just dont get it...

I remember reading the reasons behind this....I don't remember what the reason was. All I remember thinking after was: "OK.....that still doesn't explain to me why they couldn't put a full bred LS3 behind the A6". Meh...

Maybe this will be one of the things GM fixes for 2011.

I believe it was shown that both cars were calculated after a RWHP test to figure in what real flywheel horspower was and the outcomes were not REAR wheel HP but flywheel calculated. They basically took RWHP and added the average drivetrain loss and came with the 395-412 ratings. That's at least what i was reading somewhere. As for the new GT it's a nice looking car for sure and runs strong. i can't wait to hurt the owners feelings when they start becoming more common on the street I humbled a few SRT8 Challangers already

The reason they did it is because they had to meet certain gas milage requriements. The camaro with the a6 is nearly 4000lbs, 3960 I believe. With that weight the ls3 drank alot more gas. The corvette has the ls3 with a6 but thats because the vette is light. A ls3 a6 camaro would have a gas guzzler tax and thats the reason for the l99, to avoid the gas guzzler tax

Looks like the Camaro got waxed to me, looks like the new 5.0 is actually going to be a good muscle car, not just a pony car.

Wish we could have seen times and mph, lots of variables in these videos...

The body style is so weak though, I would love to have that 5.0 in the pre-2010 body.

I am far from an expert, but from what I have seen on the famous internet. I would have to agree. Most videos posted of modded LS3 Camaros usually best the GT or GT500. I don't think the 5.0 will surpass the Cobras engine for tuneability(Is that a word). Here are a few examples. Don't hate, just my opinion and agreement. I own neither. I'm still stuck in the 90's Camaro era, but they are my favorite.

Camaro 2010 vs GT500I believe the Camaro is supercharged. Not sure.

I am impressed with the new Mustangs' power. GT and V6. If these numbers hold up in real world. Now comparing, more Mustangs are sold in Auto so why not make it perform as well as it can, whereas more Camaros are sold in Manual. Ford is wisely targetting it's bread and butter to optimize sales and performance. Chevy did the same thing with the Camaro with the L99 in the auto for gas mileage and LS3 with a manual for more performance. Again, if the Mustangs numbers hold true to these tests, then I believe the Mustang will have the advantage-thanks to the extra weight-over the Camaro, at least for a year or two. I'm by no means a Ford guy either. I currently own 2 Camaros, and 12 throughout my lifetime and have never owned a Mustang period. But, I can see fact and give credit where credit is due. The 93-02 F-Bodies enjoyed their time in the spotlight, where performance goes, it was only a matter of time before the Camaro came back and the Mustang GT would step it up and get the upper hand head-to-head again. The "Z28" will be in same class as GT500 so they will compete. All that's left is to see how these cars perform in the real world once they hit the streets and then, once in the hands of their owners, see how well they respond to mods. We'll find out shortly enough.
