I originally got this kit, with Strange aluminum hubs. After looking I was sure it would not fit behind a stock wheel due to the design and the large dust cap. After searching around I found most drag wheels allow for the dust cap to come through the center. Since switching wheels was not an option I contact Midwest Chassis and they revised the kit to work with a stock hub and therefore stock wheels.

So once I had all the correct parts, I fit it all to the car. You will need either brake line adapters, or a brake line kit. I got the kit from Midwest and it work well. The old hard lines are a pain to break free from the stock adapters so go easy on them. You can see the new line and adapter in place in this picture.

And the weight. I assembled all the strange stuff on the scale and got 25lbs total. I assembled one side of the stock stuff and got about 31lbs. So 62 vs 25. So a 37 pound weight drop:



For driving impressions, the first few stops felt about like stock. After say a half dozen stops the pedal got more reactive and sensitive and the brakes had a very nice initial bite. Very confidence inspiring. I did not do any hard panic type stops but for normal driving you wouldnt know they were there other then the fact that the car seems to stop very well.

 

That is definitely not a street rotor.

 

I've been thinking about going with these but have been apprehensive as it will still see some decent street time. I'm sure if you're very safe and defensive they'd be fine...

 

After doing enough research, I realize lots of people are happy with drag brakes. I also havent really minded no front sway bar, rear drag bar, no ac, skinny fronts, spool in the rear etc. There was no reason for me to believe I couldnt live with these also. If you listen to some people all the above are a disaster, but for me they didn't bother me at all, hell I hardly noticed.

 

Thats cool. As long as they last for you and don't warp.

 

I have the bolded mods as well and I agree. People told me no sway bar would = disaster. I daily drove mine for over a year without a single issue...

 

I have double adjustable Vikings on the front and back on the Lark and as long as I keep them a little stiff, my car handles great.

 

I cant say what will happen. But my initial impressions are good.

Id really like to do the Strange rear brakes for about 20-25 pounds, and a lithium battery for another 10. That would put the car at 3050 and the next step is adding more hp.

 

I like the new toys. Sub #3000 would be awesome. With a stronger mill, you can beat up on some LS swapped fox bodies.

 

So we know what the new stuff looks like:



Yanked the old stuff off and promptly put it for sale: Its a BMR setup, which has worked good for me.



2 concerns, weight by needing to add the stock transmission crossmember back and ride quality. So lets look at the weight....The BMR torque arm was 25lbs. Then their crossmember was 10 pounds. Making the old setup 35 lbs.



Here's the stock trans crossmember: Its fully boxed and heavy. It should be as the torque arm is mounted to the trans when stock:

We are gonna un-box it by cutting the stock welds.



Now this little piece removed might not weigh much:

TA crossmember cleared my Flowmaster 3 into 4 merge very comfortably.



The Midwest torque arm: about 17lbs.

The conclusion, the BMR setup was 35. The Midwest is 17, I was able to get the TA crossmember down to 5 by eliminating the DS loop, so we are at 22. I was able to get the stock transmission crossmember down to 4 so that's 26. We lost 9 pounds.

Driving impressions: Nice. Quiet, not harsh, I'm really impressed. Traction is about the same on the street. Pinion angle is -2.5.

 

Love all this cutting weight! It really turns into an obsession. Love those Strange brakes and MWC tq arm

 

Good job on the wr. I've been known to do a little wr myself. There is a pile of weight in these cars. Last time i ran my rw was about 3250 with 3/4 tank of gas. I weigh 160 or a bit more with helmet and all. I still have abs, ac, cruise, pb, ps and a 9". I think i can find another 50lb in it to take out and keep my creature comforts.

 

Yeah ive seen some of your pics and posts. Im not willing to do much more then what ive done here. Not wanting to hole saw much of anything (trans crossmember is the only thing with holes in it). And im content with loosing most creature comforts. I would like to keep power windows, brakes, and steering though. Wipers also, this will always be a street car.

 

Hey man, I bought the bmr tq arm from you. It's a shame I didn't get to see your car. Really nice set up you have going on. I am in need of some learning haha. Keep it up man.
