Default Vid of my first start with new engine

Road has been a long one with this build. After replacing a blown engine with a used shortblock, I found out it had a spun rod bearing. Ended up getting an LQ4 that was already torn down for cheap. Rebuilt it myself with fresh bearings and rings. Mods are:

stock LQ4 rotating assembly
flycut pistons
236/242 XER cam
comp hardened pushrods
ARP rod bolts (yes, rods were honed with new bolts)
ARP head bolts
799 unported heads, milled .030
kooks 1 7/8th long tubes
3" Y to 4" flowmaster merge
electric cutout.

Here's the vid. About halfway through the lifters pump up all the way and you can finally hear the lope.

Already took her on the road for some light driving to put a load on the engine to seat the rings. Now she sits until Wednesday, got an appointment for tuning/dyno!

Sounds good, but fyi. When breaking in a cam, you are supposed to hold the engine around 1500-2k for the first 10 minutes or so of its life. Very nice build though.

I knew you were going to say that, because i said the same thing when i spoke with my cam manufacturer, However, the rollers have to seat themselves onto the new lobes, Comp recommends the method i just said because of that exact reason.

Ok. It was a used cam and used lifters anyways (this was extreme budget build, lol) so I'm not too worried.

BTW, what did your setup dyno? I almost have a similar setup, you have the fast 90 and prc 2.5 5.3 heads, where I have an ls6 intake and 59cc 799 heads. My cam is almost identical to the MS3. I'll be happy with anything between 420-440rwhp.

I actually went a different route on my lq4, i ended up buying prc stg 3 243s, with manley 2.08/1.60 valves, had them milled to 59cc(engine is 10.75:1CR) I had fran from RPM motorsports do the cam for it and i did ARP rodbolts/headbolts like you. The motor originally had a fast90 but i got a great deal on a ported102/102 setup so thats what it has now. As far as dyno numbers im honestly not sure as i street tuned it with wideband, but the car went 11.13 @127 with that setup. Car weighed 3700 with me in it, and had full rear suspension. Im guessing its 470-485whp range to achieve that kind of trap. I just tuned a 99 SS, full bolt ons, tv3 cam/prc 2.5 5.3 heads and a ls6 intake, car put down 427whp/398wtq. He was out of injector too. If your running a MS3 and those heads, plus your bigger cubes then a LS1 im sure you will be around 435-440whp dynojet. I would highly reccomend a Fast though, it will really wake your setup up.

I'd like one too, but funds won't allow it right now, lol. I also installed a racetronix fuel pump and have 42lb injectors to swap to once I take it to the tuner, so fuel won't be a problem. 440rwhp would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm just hoping for traps around 122-125. Car is 3630 with me in it.

Should trap that no problem in decent air, and when you go FAST watch those duty cycles, i have FIC 42lb'ers in my car now, and the IDC's were 89% @ 6800.. I know this is still okay, but i wanted to put on 1 7/8s headers and possibly a ram air kit so im hoping there not maxed.. spray is out of the question lol. But keep us posted on the numbers im curious, looks like it all went well though!

Used the stock cam bearings that came with the block (engine barely had 30,000 miles on it when pulled from the H2 it came from, and machine shop said they were fine), mains are stock replacement (engine tech), and rod bearings are clevite .002 oversized. Piston rings are also stock replacement (engine tech). I checked ring gap before install and came to about .022-.025 on all of them.

Had it on the dyno last wednesday. Made 399/380. Little surprised about the numbers but it feels like a really strong car.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bO09kU_cwPA

I'm not too worried about the dyno though. The next night I had a race set up and ran an '07 BMW 335i. Made 425whp on a local dyno and trapped 117 mph a couple weeks prior at our local track. I pulled almost 5 cars on him from 40-135mph. Hitting track Wednesday. If I can pull a 119-120mph trap in this soupy, muggy weather, I know 123mph traps are possible in the cool air.

Numbers look OK to me, if you read too far into it you start to get paranoid for no reason. I have a similar setup, LS1 with untouched 243 heads, ls6 intake, 233/239 XER cam, and through a unlocked 4000rpm converter in front of the stock 4l60e I made 350rwhp.

Sounds like it runs good and I am sure you wont be disappointed, good luck with it!

Thanks. I'm less paranoid about it. I guess I just got too much into reading all the internet hype, lol. It's a very strong car for sure...even with the cutout closed, lol. I'm hitting the track tomorrow if the weather holds. I'll be on street tires (sold my old set of tires/wheels to help fund this build) so E.T. will be lacking, just gonna go to check my mph for now.
