Why LS motors are so good...
It cracks me up how many purists of all kinds are so anti LS. On a Pontiac forum the other day a guy asked if anyone had put a LS in his body style Grand Prix. It turned into a big LS bash fest.
I like all kinds of engines and if you don't care about weight or a carb, then run what you want. But for what you get with a LS, you can't beat it. And compared to Ford mod motors or Dodge's newer hemis there's no comparison.
There's no reason at all to choose a SBC over a LS, but that's about the only engine that can be as light. SBCs are the most boring V8 ever. I want both an all AL Pontiac and BBC, but you're still 100-200 lbs heaver for those engines in AL and need a $5000 block and $3000 to add EFI.
It's just funny to me to see purists get so bent out of shape when someone has a LS engine. Yet if they just saw the car with the hood closed they'd never know anyway.
Then you hear about how much $$$ it is to go LS....or you could go BBC for that $$$. Now my car weighs about the same as it did with the all iron SBC 406 that was in there....BUT, with a much tamer cam, less cubic inches, I'm running just as fast and should go faster once I get her dialed in (one day
