Question Digital Camcorder Questions.

Ok, Im in the market for a Digital Camcorder. Initially I was thinking I wanted a DVD camcorder or even one of the new hard drive camcorders. But after some research im finding that Mini DV is the most popular and is predicted to stay that way for a while. Here are the questions...

What type of media do those of you with Digital camcorders record to...Mini DV, DVD, Hard disk, Digital 8 and WHY?

Do you edit your own footage and if so is it fairly painless?

What Brand and Model?

Are you happy with it?

Thanks,
John

I use a Sony Mini DV, it's the best right now. Mini DV will probably be the most popular for a while. It's very easy to edit with good software too.

I have a Mini DV Samsung Digital-Cam. and the quality is pretty good.
What would you guys recommend for video editing? I have Pinnical Studio 7 and i was very disappointed with that. I ran into way to many problems with it so now im left with Windows Movie maker, and even that keeps freezing up on me. Any suggestions?

I have a Sony miniDV. I don't recommend the Sony mini DVD ones, as they use a proprietary compression format that many editing programs will have issues with. You can also record longer on miniDV than mini DVD. One thing I recommend, though, get at least 20x zoom. The Sonys now have 20x (at least the standard size miniDV), but mine only has 10x, and there have been numerous times I would have liked to have more.

i have the panasonic 3ccd dv camcorder and traded in my sony for it. the day time shot for the panasonic is 10x better i think. the only down side is there is no night shot for it unless you buy the light for the top. but other for that its great and it only cost around the 500$ range.
