I actually think the formula shot is the better picture. What lens are you use on your XTi?

I do prefer teh Vette shot, but like the Formula one as well. I was using the standard Canon 18-55 lense the camera came with.

The lighting is just much better on the Formula shot imo. The background is better on the vette picture. You could improve the lighting in photoshop in the vette picture of course.

Cool on the lens. That's all I have as well. Good lenses are expensive!

There was only so much we could do for lighting, and the the day was more for getting Vette pics than really getting my Formula in the pics. As far as the lense goes, the Canon lenses are really good (some of the best money can buy). The 18-55 lense is great for shots 50 feet away or closer, but anything further than that and you really need another lense. You are correct that lenses can be very expensive.
