Default BAD experience w/ HOSS99

Sold me a set of '99 heads, supposedly ported by APE, w/ 918 springs. The heads have absolutely no signs of ever being ported in any way. All of the port and combustion chamber surfaces have the OEM pebbly finish, exactly as cast. There are NO grinding or polishing marks evident, anywhere. The heads came shipped in boxes with original UPS mailing labels, clearly show that he bought the heads from someone else, & just passed them on. The valvesprings are original GM, no blue stripes, stock seat pressures.

I've IM'd him, to no avail. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......

I bought a cam from him about a month ago and just sent him a MO for a set of pushrods. The cam was exactly what he said it was. So my experience with him has been great. Do you have any pics of the heads and springs?

Hit I pm'd you this -

I believe I warned you about the heads. Those were my stock heads given to Modern Cyl Head by APE (When my Car was there in April '01) for a mild port job(clean up the combustion chambers) and valve job. I only paid $350 to have this done as you were told. The springs are Comp Cam Non-Blue Stripe 918's w/ stock retainers. I bought them from MTI in Jan '01 before Comp started putting Blue Stripes on them. I was using them with my MTI B1 Cam, Stock springs would not handle the lift of this Cam. As for the shipping Tags from UPS; I personally brought the heads to UPS and had them pack them, because I didn't have a box big enough. They told me that they would have to pack them in extra boxes so that the edges of the heads wouldn't cut throught the box. I paid $15 extra for the packing service. Maybe they put the extra label on in case the boxes got seperated or something ( I have no idea). I feel I gave you adequate warning, and therfore will not be sending your money back. I already offered that before I shipped the heads, and you told me to go ahead and ship them.

PM'd you this before I shipped -

I received the MO yesterday. I just wanted to clarify a little before I ship the heads. I was looking at the heads last night, and thought that I should mention that they were only mildly ported. I paid Modern Cyl Head $350 to do a mild port and polish job on these heads. They said that this will make them flow about as well as a stock LS6 head. They have stock valves, and Comp 918's. On APE's Mustang Dyno I gained 20hp/20tq from just these heads with the MTI B1 Cam. If after reading this if you decide that you don't want the heads, I'll send your money back. The heads are good esp for the price. I just didn't want you to be dissapointed, or feel that I misrepresented the heads.

PS: The dates mentioned above should have been '02, not '01

"Only mildly ported" and "mild port and polish" means that they were actually ported in some way, other than an everyday valve job. If these heads were polished, it was done with a dish rag. There are NO grinding marks on these heads, and NO polished surfaces. I have owned two different sets of mildly ported (Stage 1) heads, and I know what to look for.

Having said that, and having read the favorable feedback,I will accept your word that there was no intent on your part to deceive me. I will also accept your word that the valvesprings are indeed CC "918" springs, even though they do not have a blue stripe, and the seat pressure seems to be the same as stock. However, I still don't understand how UPS could have affixed shipping labels from a third party, addressed to you, to the boxes.

Bottom line is, buyer beware. I knew the price of the heads was unusually low. and have found that you usually get what you paid for. I should have known better.

Who was the third party? I'm curious? Was it the UPS Store address?

The early 918 springs did not have blue stripes. Seat pressure should be good they were only used for maybe 1500 miles, and never failed with a B1 Cam lift of .559.

Just thought I'd let everybody know that the pushrods I bought from him showed up last week and they were exactly what he said they were.. just like the cam I bought from him before. Would definately buy from him again.

btw.. I wouldn't buy ported heads from ANYONE without seeing pics first.. just something to remember for the future.

250 for mildly ported heads plus 918 springs? Thats not a bad deal at all. Bare heads can be sold for that much sometimes even 300. If you dont like them sell them.. If you advertise the heads as stock with 918 springs you could probably get 50-75 bucks more. Stop the crying, keep em or sell em.

The heads are not mildly ported, and the springs don't appear to be 918's. I will not advertise them as such unless I know for a fact what they are, and that the seat pressure is OK.

Most stock heads I have seen for sale lately have been in the $150 - $200 range. $300 is a wet dream. I recently sold a set of brand new C5 heads (2K miles, 241 castings) for $250. These heads are '99's.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. In my opinion, I'm entitled to get what I paid for, and what was advertised. Guess I expected too much.
