I agree with the 100 post count as a good start to stopping scammers. As a newbie on the site, I got ripped off for $350 from a guy that only had a post count of 2. At the time, I didn't know the importance of peoples post counts and being able to check them out to see if they were ligit or not. Now, I'm out $350 to some kids in Albany, GA. It's all ready cost me more than $350 to track them down, and it's going to cost me even more to follow up with legal action. The admins on this board are not obligated to help me out in any way, but they have gone out of their way on several occasions to help me with my situation.

I agree, though, that there are scammers out here with over 100 post count. In my case, most of my post come from pursuing the kids that ripped me off. But 100 post should give folks enough information to look at to get an idea of what kind of person they are dealing with.

This is a great board and keeping scammers out will only make it better.

I'll vouch for Ramairnut, I know him personally but I do understand the concerns.

My only complaint is that post counts are NOT a fix. What would discourage a "scammer" to go in any section and post 99 "TTT" posts just to reach the limit in a short period of time? If you can't afford to loose the $, you should be buying retail and not person to person for one. For two, if you can't get every possible bit of information from a person before you send them your hard earned cash, it's your own fault.

Call me whatever you want but I have been ripped off before and it WAS MY OWN FAULT. Simple, I didn't get a phone number or anything from them before I sent payment, lesson learned. If it's anything higher priced, I try to meet them in person to buy. If that's not an option, I just pass on the deal. It's not worth the risk of loosing $ to me.

Good point. In hind sight, I can see a million and one way's I could have avoided loosing my money. Whether it's $5 or $5,000 - it's still a PITA to loose your money to a scammer

i like this idea. i will usually not buy anything from someone if they only have 100 post anyway. like PSJ and Nineball said it will just make it a little bit harder for someone to start scamming. we are acually lucky that they even let us sell and buy stuff on here. there is alot of forums that dont alow this. i sure like the idea of being about to find used stuff cheap on here or being able to get rid of my unwanted parts quick, but you always have to be carefull about it or you will get burned.

i would much rather just give my name rob stone address midland north cakolacky and phone number to whoever needs it. selling and trading will always involve risk. there is paypal, 3rd party, references, length of time on this site may work.........post count is probably not best of ideas, or you're really going to get bored of hearing from this transplanted west virginia hillbilly before it's over.
just my humble opinion

wvaboy, instead of posting a series of non-constructive complaints, how about helping out with a SOLUTION?

Got some better ideas? Lets hear them.

Well, it seems something had to be done as a start at least. I give the admins credit for taking a step and trying to curb these morons from scamming the honest folks here. Do I think this will work 100%? No, but I believe it will stop some people. I do not have 100 posts yet, but can live with this rule. I could also live with putting up personal information to sell on this site. I for one and I am sure most other members feel that their personal integrity and reputation here is paramount and are willing to do whatever it takes to make this site a safer place to sell and trade.

I have had nothing but great experiences buying parts from members here (maybe I have been lucky) and I hope this step will be a start in insuring everyone can make that claim.
