Probably because he can use his dad to get out of trouble. My wife's dad was a police chief and she got out of stuff all the time. It's all about connections. That's probably why he does this stuff and doesn't care, because he hasn't had to be responsible for his actions as a kid and now he just does whatever he feels like. Like cleptoing car parts.
