He was banned on the 14th. Hasn't been online using that SN since then - he can't - he's banned.

I think banned people can still be 'online', they just can't do anything

Bad trader list! Why not ban him AND put him on the bad trader list. If you do it right away you could save other people money and trouble! Then why not help the members by posting all the information you have on him. It's pretty clear that he's up to no good. Why not protect the members? These people are stealing money from honest members!! Someone needs to police the selling on this board a little better. I would be pissed off too!!!

Someone needs to chill out a little......

I apologize for having a life outside of this forum, but if an individual couldn't figure out that dealing with this guy was a bad idea(brand new member, very few posts) then no amount of my policing will help them. As soon as this thread was up, had anyone come into this forum to check it out, they would have seen it, as it hasn't dropped off the first page yet - since it started. Also - he was banned after no response to my efforts. I didn't give him the usual benefit of the doubt, he was continuing his behavior and got a permaban.

If an individual can't utilize the boards resources and pair that with common sense, maybe they should seriously reconsider buying items from a board like this. Its always a risk, but a little common sense and some investigating will usually dispell any reasonable worries.

And yes - I know - search is kinda fudged right now. Makes things a little more difficult. It can still be accomplished though, if you so desired to.

Please don't take this as a personal attack, as it is not. It is just a general statement about buying online, and that never will you be 100% protected. We do our best around here - if you have suggestions then please PM me about them. I'm more than willing to discuss it further with you.

FWIW, he is on the bad trader list now, despite the fact that he's banned.

Well, I filed with paypal...
And if I don't get my money back, I am all for any other "options" that other people suggest.
I'd be happy to go to the police department about it, I bet they will want to do something after they receive several calls from different people.
This guy's not getting away with it.

In another post he says his name is Paul from Green Bay, WI with an email address of bobjozx@hotmail.com

That email address is found elsewhere on an Treo 650 AOL PDA web site, from someone in Green Bay WI (Google it).

His IP address is 24.166.147.214 - ns lookup is cpe-24-166-147-214.new.res.rr.com

Running a traceroute to that IP has a last router address of gig-0-2.deprwi1-ubr1.new.rr.com - my $.02 guess would be that it's located in the vicinity of De Pere, WI (South Green Bay).

If someone has an inside to RoadRunner (know anyone?), you can take that IP, cross ref it to the time he was online (do a search for his posts), and get his account info.

How about a one year waiting peroid to sell anything? I hate hearing that a trusting person needs to have more common sense. I think there should be a way that a member could flag a seller and stop him from selling immedately! If it turns out to be a oversite, so be it. At least that way they can't continue to rip people off why things are getting sorted out! Andy.

He was exchanging private messages and replying to "looking for" threads, not posting "for sale" ads. Can't police private messages.

Exactly my point. I don't know how you would like us to police them w/o invading privacy, but we couldn't anyhow due the sheer number of them.

There is a way to flag a member, send a PM to a moderator, and they will look into it. Giving average members any sort of control over other's accounts through a "kill-switch" would be horribly abused, we'd spend more time fixing that type of stuff than watching out for scammers like this. Not a feasible idea on a site this large.

I'd have to say I think the waiting time is great as it is...
You guys do an awesome job on this site. I just can't believe I was stupid enough to fall for this guy. I'm usually very skeptical, I guess I just got desperate. He made up a story that he ordered the halo's, and then wrecked his car before they arrived.
Buying from someone with only 5 posts is no one's fault but my own. Lesson learned. Thank god it was only $160... but now I'm $160 out, and no halo's, and I've been waiting on these for a long time.

LASTLS1 it's not the mods that ripped you off so theres no need to get an attitude with them, I lost $300 to this scumbag but theres no point in bash the mods when there trying to help us.

If my paypal claim doesn't go through I am going to file charges with his police department and the online FBI fraud center. And if they get reports from everyone on here thats more than enough for them to check him out. Granted we may not see our money but at least we will know this ******* went down for it...

I didn't get ripped off! I felt sorry for you guys! I'm not "bashing the mods". But the amount of people that get ripped off is bad. Even if it were one. I'm giving ideas to help it from happening again. Let me know how the law works out for you. I think you'll find it's easier to prevent than it is to resolve. If the mods can't take any suggestions with out taking it personal, well, that sounds like a personal problem. I just hate lieing theives! Good luck. 630-531-5666.

Well I filed with Visa today, they seemed much more proactive than Paypal did and said I'd probably have the money back in a few days.

Losing money does suck, but what's worse is that little dose of reality that we all just got. I have literally had thousands upon thousands of online transactions for years, both on eBay and on forums and had not one problem, even from new members with little posts. Just going to be more careful in the future...

IMO, just because a member hasn't posted a large number of messages, doesn't mean they are not "committed". I have been a member for over a year, and have built my LS1 1st gen with help from the the vast amount of info on this site. I am one who searches for information and rarely posts. That doesn't make me any less trustworthy, knowlegeable, or in any way "less" of a member than someone with hundreds of posts.
