Default Possible $2k bad deal, what do you think?? NOT RESOLVED--UPDATE

Please read this thread:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...t=engine+crate

If you read all through his posts you gather this is a new crate engine, I paid 1900 for it and received one of the takeout GM crate motors that are all over for $100-$300 bucks. I have 1900 in a rebuildable core engine.

main points are:
"All,
I have a 6.0 long block for sale. Still in the crate. I cut the plastic on the engine the other day to look at the heads and block. I believe its based on a 04 engine. Call me @ 334-354-9332 or email me at DAVID.ROBINSON.30@US.AF.MIL "

and

"Its a 6.0 long block (w/ water pump and crank pully) and its NEW 317 heads all stock"

both quoted by him

I took pics and will post them later but its a dirty, carboned up engine with loose bolts (heads, etc) just like any takeout "piston slap" engine I have bought in the past for cores to rebuild, NOWHERE near an engine ready to run.

Here are the pics of the aforementioned engine. Is this what you would expect from that ad? I took these at work today, minutes after unloading the engine from the carrier. The truck driver even comment that he had been shipping around quite a few junkyard motors lately......yeah....nice

Damn sure doesn't look like $2000 worth of engine. Looks like a junk yard core.

Well, in reading his post, in all honesty, no where does he ACTUALLY say it's a NEW crate motor from GM - says he has a long block in a crate. It is indeed in a crate. But the the title does say 'crate motor' which everywhere on the planet is taken to mean a NEW motor from GM thru assumption.

He does say at one point that it has NEW 317 heads (and those heads have definitely been used - so that was a falsehood) you can see the buildup in the ports, the telltale intake gasket marks around the ports, and the plugs are even still installed.

The post stated that he would send pics upon request - did you not require pics of the actual item you were buying before just sending off $2K!???

I ask for pics of the ACTUAL item that is being sold every time I buy - even if it is a small ticket item. I don't accept copied mfg. pics - if seller can't take pics of the item he/she is selling - well then, I move on...

That engine, looking at the state it is in, leads me to believe that it has DEFINITELY been used for quite some time and probably setting out in the weather for some time also. Awful lot of rust marks all over the engine and the block paint is trashed. My engine in my TA with 30K on the clock looks as if it came from the factory.

Post is slightly misleading, (leaves a lot of assumptions on the part of the buyer) but in all fairness, without knowing all the intricate details of your deal, if you didn't look into the item more closely, and demand pics of the actual item - then you are also at fault.

Not taking sides - just stating my opinion as was asked. But I would definitely get in touch with him and straighten things out.

I asked him multiple times for pictures of the motor. No luck so I kicked him to the curb. Sorry for your misfortune and I hope you can get some satisfaction. I agree, notify his command that you will be pressing civil charges for fraud.

Looks like a total scam to me! I've heard that you can contact his superiors in the Military and they will help resolve this. The military doesn't take kindly to these kinds of things happening.

Another update......have received 1 payment back out of three. After tearing the engine apart it had water in three cylinders and after taking it to the machine shop to have the worst cylinder bored to see if it would clean up the pitting, the block was deemed not useable
