Exclamation change oil before storeage?

should I change my oil before I store my car? Has mobil1 synthetic extended performance rated at 15,000 miles I have about 2,000miles on the oil. I wouldn't keep it in my car that long, but just wondering any other tips for storeage?

Yes, change oil before storing your car. Also disconnect the battery, and add some fuel stabilizer to gas tank. Store the car with a full gas tank and inflate tires higher then usual. Also give it a very good wash. Id also plug up your tailtipes so no animal gets in there. And add something that can take the moisture out of the air inside your car.

As for keeping moisture out of the car, go to the Home Depot and get some stuff called Damp Rid.

my garage gets alot of moisture in it so I'm going to lay a tarp down and park it on it and have a car cover sound good? I was going to use a cheap car cover think that could be a problem, just in case my roof leaks

Eh John i think changing the oil is overkill. Myself and just about everyone i know takes out the battery, some fuel stabilizer with full tank, fill the tires and your GTG.

I don't change my oil before I put it away for the winter....I do it in the spring before I start driving again. I just power-washed the inside of all my rims this weekend, they look pretty good for having 50k miles on them.

Thats how I've always done things too. That and I put my stock rims on for storage and put the good ones in the basement, but not sure if thats really worth doing or not.

I was reading one of my Classic car mags the other day and they pointed out that at least a couple of valves are always open whenever your engine is off. The old guys cap their exhast and carbs to keep moisture out of the engine due to temp changes in the air.

Seems a little fanatic to me, but there it is.

It is less about the quality of your oil and more about th contaminents in the oil. Can't be avoided if the car has been running. Moisture, blow by. Extended storage, go with fresh oil. Totally agree with the other comments on fuel stabilizer. Add it, top the tank off (a full tank has less room for condensation to form) and run the car long enough to get the stabilizer all the way through the fuel system. If you add it in your garage and don't run it you won't get the benefit

Change it before putting the car away. Why leave contaminated acidic oil in your engine over the winter?

Do you disconnect the battery if you plan on starting it 2 or 3 times a month?

Why would you start it? Warming it up without driving it is even harder on the engine then letting it sit over the winter. Put good oil in with your oil change and then just let it sit over the winter with the battery removed and the tires slightly over inflated.

My car sits all winter. Gets a fresh synthetic oil change once a year in the spring and is good to go. I dont even take the battery out. Just hook up the charger every once in a while. I only put like 1500 miles a year on it though.
