Default help please

I have a 1999 z28 with 125,000 miles, and after school i start it up and there is a "LOW OIL" light on. Car does not drip 1 drop of oil and i use mobile 1 full synthetic. Did an oil change around 4,000 miles ago and now i have a "LOW OIL" light.

Did you check the oil level? It comes on when you're about 2 quarts low. If the level is fine could be the sensor in the side of the oil pan or it's connector/wiring issue.

You should change it every 2500-3000, well not should but it's nice.

My cars usually shows the light at 3k+ so ur about right, change it.

Sounds like your burning oil. the sensor is the logical explanation. i put in 5.5 quarts and im full but i have heard of people putting in six.

That sure is a very good place to start. Kind of defeats the purpose of asking the question (Not that there necessarily was a question in the OP, anyway...) if you haven't done the most logical an easiest diagnosis.

Yes, OP, you are burning oil. But not necessarily at an alarming level, though. Just keep an eye on it.

Maybe in the 80's that was necessary. These days a good synthetic has no trouble with 5k miles.

I do 5000. There is no chance for harm. Over in Europe they run up to 10,000 between oil changes.

exactly what i was going to say.

there is NO reason to change every 3K miles these days when using top quality oil.

MAYBE if you run autoX or road races every weekend.

but for a typically driven...even occasional tracked..car you are fine going higher.

alot of companies are even extending the interval to 7500 or 10K miles.

changing M1 or similar full syn oil every 3K miles is nothing more than a waste of money. the oil companies are still reaping the benefits of mis-information.

if you're gonna do ANYTHING...change the oil filter every 2500 and the oil every 5000.

but definatly make sure to keep the oil topped off. running a qt low will increase the wear...in effect decrease the life...of the 4.5qts that are left.

you are better off of getting in the habit of checking it every 1000 miles or so
just to see where you are level wise.

your car could probably use an oil change anyways. like everyone else has said Ls1s use a little oil, it just happens.

It's probably eating a little Oil.. when you stroke it, it will drink some more cause of the Piston Rock at the bottom of the 4" Stroke. I was reading about that in another thread and was pretty suprised.
