looking to buy ls1 have question
im looking to buy an ls1 m6 fbody. I want it to have 85,000 or less miles but there are a couple of good clean ones but they have a tad over 100,000..
one being an ss and the other an ws6. now im not going to dog the car but it will see track time. I have owned several performance cars mustangs, camaro, supras ,etc.. but this will be the first ls1 cars and im researching and want opinions. I know that it is a strong engine but what issues do they have. how long is the ls1 good for mileage wise? I know every engine is different but on average how many miles can you get out of an ls1 before it has enough...
thanks

honsestly mine has 140,000 and im still modding and have over 40lbs of oil at idle. depends on how it was taken care off ...mine was previously driven by a lady so it wasnt beat to ****. milege wise if heard of pple with 250,000 iles spraying 150 shots and the motors holding up. if you take decent care of it you should be good as long as it didnt have a troubled past. but that is just my knowledge hope it helps man :-D

my sierra has 250k miles, no oil comsumption,no piston cold slap, leaks no fluids, it has been treated rugged, towing, street racing, roll racing, a 100 shot, but i have always maintaned it, runs smooth as if were new, no ses engine or warning lights, ever., temp. always consistent,
i currently own a stock z28 with 135k miles, runs hard, no trobles with engine.
the engines give out when there abused, and not taken care of. as anything else.
most fbodys, 8 out of 10 will have 100k+ miles, and the ones with less than will be priced accordingly, esp. the 01-02. the bang for the buck are the hi mieage cars, the lsx engines are becoming more affordable every day despite contrary belief, there was a time when anything lsx had a premium or a "tax"
but not so much anymore, a simple 6.0 based engine will have plenty of power and inexpensive to build. 450+bhp is easy with a 6.0 motor and stock oem heads, along with mild cam and ls6 intake, and supporting bolt ons.

Every GM car my family has owned has lasted a LONG time..
94 Bonneville SSEi (supercharged model) 224k
94 Tran Sport SE minivan.. lol grandpa bought that from us at 120k and drove her into the ground at 261k
My 97 T/A has 100,5xx miles on it and she still runs strong as an ox
If you maintain it well, look at getting atleast 150k out of it (even with beating on it every once in awhile) Cars can be beaten on as well as they are matched and taken care of (or babied) at the same time.
Even if the shortblock goes, a rebuild isn't too expensive.. even a new one isn't that pricey
