Default LS setup

Hi guys,

In the coming Jan i gonna buy gmc truck 1977-1987 one of these models.

Which will be better to start my project the auto or Manual Transmission ?
As i know the manual transmission come 4 speeds only. Or i need to fix another transmission ?

LS1 will be good enough or 6.2 Denali engine is better ?

I want the car for street race.

Thanks all

4l80 or TH400 (3 speed) tranny will be much more durable than a 4l60 or TH350. Go with the bigger cube motor and stroke that biatch to 402-408

no idea on which trans would be better for you but a ls1 would definatly be a cool swap.... possibly a 6.0L lq9 or if you don't want all that weight which doesn't sound like a problem to you since you are thinking about the Denali motor was going to say possibly a ls2?

well for boost an lq4 is ideal, because it has a 9.4:1 CR, and the engine is pretty cheap, but if you are going NA i would prefer an aluminum block with much higher CR. also look in to the lq9 ( 6 liter iron block v8 10.0:1 CR basically an lq4 with new pistons ) good luck, let us know what you choose.

compression ratio... Higher ratio (Ex. 11:1) means more power for naturally aspirated applications, while lower ratio (ex. 8.5:1) means you can add more boost safely with a turbo or supercharged application. yes it is more complicated than that, but thats the basic idea.

Aha Thank you very much for explaining that.

Guys, only my Second time to work with American cars thats why i really need your help.

For a future plans which will be better:

L92 with Higher CR pistons and Cam

OR

LQ4 with Higher CR pistons and Cam

I really Care about weight: there is a big different in both engines weight ?

Thanks guys in advance

if you are going NA why not go with an aluminum block, you will save a little bit of weight there. also please keep in mind that the higher you CR ratio is the higher octane you will need to prevent knock. but there are little tricks to that, like running meth and the shape of the combustion chamber. (a bigger combustion chamber will be better for preventing knock) good luck
