I just got 30mpgs too with my screen out yesterday. I've got a 99% full-bolton vert. I had a car full of stuff too which added weight. I went about 140 miles and my average mpgs was 30.1!!! I was very impressed!!! power to stomp almost anyones sh*t and with the gas mileage of a civic hahaha![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)

No, no, no , no don't do it. Any power gain you get is all in your head.
You'd be better off greasing up you windshield so you can slip through the air better.

ONLY DESCREEN YOUR MAF IF............... YOU NEVER PLAN TO TUNE YOUR CAR. A descreened MAF is a hell of a lot harder to accurately tune than a stock one with a screen.
Also you won't notice it but almost all LT1s and LS1s that descreen end up running richer than they should. You'll see it on your tail pipes.
Descreening a MAF is an old trick from the TPI days when the computers weren't as sensitive as OBD1 and OBD 2 and the 85-89 Bosch MAFs had thick screens on both ends. A LT1 or LS1 MAF screen doesn't inhibit air flow so don't mess with it.

i can't remember the EXACT reason it does it, but just search the automatic section for MAF or even "ported maf" and you'll find that i'm not telling you to refill your blinker fluid.
if you're that concerned about your maf restricting airflow, just remove the maf and tune your car to run in speed density.

if u have an air lid and air K&N air filter that catches all the debris and flies and what not and you don't find any bugs or anything at ur MAF screen then go ahead and pop that screen out and port and polish it while ur at it. orrrrr just leave it on and do other free mods ......
