Default new to these engines and have some questions

ok so im still new to working on the ls1 engines. i just acquired my trans am and im a little curious to what i can put on my engine. i have seen many people talk about different heads from different engines with numbers that i have no clue about. plus i have seen talk of putting ls6 intakes on ls1's, once again im lost. so if someone could give me a run down on what will fit on my engine as far as other engine parts, i would be so very greatful.

Do you have an LS1?

If so, you can put on any Heads except for the L92/LS3's, and the LS7's.

The LS6 Intake is from the LS6, it's a very good upgrade for a LS1. LS6 Heads (#243 Heads) are good heads aswell.

The LS6 Intake came stock on the '01 up models, what year do you have?

Damn, nice buy. How many miles?

Yea, you will have the LS1 Intake that has the EGR Hose coming from it going to the EGR Vavle on the Passengers Side Head.

Get you a Stall, some Gears and Bolt-ons(Headers, Intake kits) and mod away till you run out of money..lol
Careful, it gets addicting.

common acronyms:

ls1 - your engine...the generation 3 small block 346 cubic inches
ls6 - the gen 3 engine that was put in the corvette ZO6, basically the same block as the ls1 (minimal changes, nothing that really makes a difference), but with a slightly bigger cam, and slightly better flowing heads (243s)
ls6 intake - intake manifold off the ls6 engine, flowed better than the ls1. bolts directly on. was standard on all 01/02 camaros and firebirds.
241 heads - heads that came on the ls1, there were other styles that were basically the same but different numbers...806 i think are one.
243 heads - the heads that came on the ls6 engine

what are you lookin to get out of the car?

auto cross/road race
drag car
fun street car

but as stated, its hard to beat the basics first.

air lid on the front, ls6 intake, headers, exhaust, torque converter, gears, and a good tune will really surprise you.

after that i'd look into some suspension stuff, to keep the wheels on the ground.

manual trans or auto?

gears always wake up a car on the street....373s if you have an auto, and 410s if you're manual.

new shocks...even on stock springs...will make the car handle
