Default squeaky pulley help!

I have a 99 Trans am that constantly squeaks. at first i thought it was a belt, so i changed them out and turns out it wasnt that. so i bought a new tensioner pulley and it wasnt that, i also replaced the Idler...wasnt that, THEN i rented a pulley remover and removed the power stearing pulley and greased the bearing and put it back on and something is still squeaking. its really hard to tell what it is. im pretty damn sure its a pulley, cant tell where its coming from though. anyone got any ideas...

-thanks

I have a squeek too. I have done the same as you. Replaced idler pulley, tensioner pulley, and the belt. I have not found my problem yet, but I now believe it is one of the pulleys on the A/C drive. Try to listen if ur squeek gets louder or not when u turn on ur A/C, could be the idler or tensioner for that. Though good luck getting the idler off... i totally stripped the torx bolt trying to remove it. Idk why it cant b a regular hex bolt there.

edit: Also, does the squeek ever go away? Once my car fully warms up my squeek would go away. It was loudest on cold starts.

Default Ac

Check you're AC idler and tensioner pulleys. I had a squeak that was quiet at startup, but got louder over a few minutes and I did everything under the sun until i decided to take off the AC belt and it was nice and quiet. It ended up being the AC pulleys. Both the idler and tensioner are the same part, but they a little pricey.

My car squeeks at start up and goes away. I have replaced the tensioner pulley, guess I'll try the AC pulley.

I have this problem as well. It's worst at startup when it's really humid outside (cool mornings when she wasn't parked in the garage). I replaced the tensioner pulley as well to no avail. Also, it soulds like the bearings are bad somewhere in the engine, as it's always making some noise when running.

its the tensioner pulley for the A/Cits on the bottom passenger side of the car there is two one on top of the other check both cause they are low to the ground so they get wet and the grease goes bad and they aren't something you wanna re pack cause it doesn't fix it for more then a week or two

i just replaced mine i had the same problem and in fact it got louder when it was raining or there was a lot of humidity

good luck

oh and most auto parts store have the wrong part number so go to the dealer you'll also need an A/C belt and the factory brand is DAYCO and part number is 410K4 auto parts stores can cross reference the size

cheers

Does anyone know if the A/C idler torx bolt is reverse threaded or not?

Yeah, I have a squeaky pulley, and its not the A/C, because i cut the A/C belt when the A/C went bad.

you got another pulley then but the two tensioner pulleys is what usually goes bad first cause they are so low to the grown and get wet usually

i got the same trouble and the other nigth i was looking for these noise so i used some Wd40 over the crank and it goes for minute then begin again so a take a look on the top of the engine and i can see the belt are a little bent , cuz the a/c compresor its like 5mm forward from the crank pulley (im gonna take some pictures to show) so you guys do the same (look of your a/c belt from the top of your engines) maybe you can see it, anyway these week im gonna unscrew my a/c compresor and bracket and try to move to back i got to say when i buy my car theres no a/c, the last owner take off the two pulleys of the bracket so i buy the new pulleys and new belt (gates p.n. 4040410)

I repacked mine couple of years ago, no problems, just use a quality wheel bearing grease, work carefully so the seals don't get goobered:

ok i changed my A/C idler, but when i went to put the ac belt back on it wouldnt go back on? its the same pulley as the last, same size...same belt. i just left it off cause its winter and im not in need of the cold air right now. the sqeak is gone for the most part, i can hear a little sqeak every now and then. I guess one day when I feel like it I'll boil that belt and try to make it fit.
