stock hood is like 60lbs or so . a fiber glass hood is like 10 lbs.

i went from a stock z28 hood to a carbon fiber functional SS hood and lost almost .2 at the track from the wind resistance of the scoop

A factory SS hood does not weigh 10 pounds. Sounds like that was an aftermarket hood, which does not weigh 10 pounds either. They are heavier than that.

If you want to save weight and keep the aero of the Z hood.

Just get a fiberglass z hood.

VFN has one:
'98-2002 Stock flat Bolt On Hood. Price=399.00 Weight=18

And they happen to be a board sponsor>>>>>>>>>>

Just a side note, the OEM SS hood isn't fiberglass either...

OEM is made out of SMC which is very similiar to fiberglass.
The hood struts are the same, I own an SS and a Z28.
In fact I tried a cheap fiberglass SS replica hood on my Z28, it was so thin the struts would bulge the top surface of the hood.

That seems like a big loss just from the scoop damn I wouldnt have thought that you would loss that much from such a small scoop

Right...There's about a 0% chance of that happening. The ram air on the SS hood is worthless and the scoop would actually INCREASE wind resistance, not reduce it. That time reduction more than likely had more to do with better driving or better weather.

That's only true if you install the stickers.
