Default What are the benifets to iridium plugs in LS?

I just paid 53 bucks for 8 Iridium plugs at Auto Zone. My brother is porksoda on here. He told me that there is no benefit to iridium plugs and copper would suffice. Any input would be appreciated.

Your brother is right... somewhat. Like the person said above the only advantage is longer life... otherwise there is no advantage. I guess its up to you how often you rather change plugs, 30k or 60k. I bought copper plugs and MSD wires for what you paid for the plugs alone... so its also up to your wallet, lol.

Yea Pablo these guys are right, and so is robert. The Iridium and "platinum" plugs are supposed to last longer. Some of the AC Delco's are advertised to last 100k miles. Me personally I would just go with NGK TR-55's and be done with it.

Iridium dissipates heat faster than any other metal used in spark plugs keeping the plug cooler and extending its life.

none. no advantage. and a good friend of mine who works at a chevy dealer as service manager has seen many cases where the aftermarket plugs have caused issues with poor idle and misfires.

Must be some shitty aftermarket plugs, or gapped completely wrong.

Given the grief-level of changing plugs, longer lasting
is good. I'll pay 20 bucks to skip a year or three.

NGK TR55-IX here. And I don't think I paid any $57.
But that was at least a year back.

Longer life, I sell one set of iridiums to every 50 sets of copper plugs and I offer them for less than most. There are some who go with copper until they are done tuning and then go to iridiums.

I've helped a friend change plugs on an Fbody... can't say I would want to do that again. So I understand spending the extra $$$ to not have to change them as often. Thankfully I can change mine in under 30 minutes

I use A/C DELCO IRIDIUMS....longer lasting and Iridium dissipates heat faster/better....as said above.

I have used both. I likie the TR55-IX, but run the copper just because they are cheap and I change them yearly weather they need it or not.

That said, I will probably buy a set of TR55-IX next time around. I'll hit up 99BlancoSS and see what he gets for them and the MSD wires.

if you have a boosted motor i would not go with iridium plugs, i was told that the tip on an irodium plug would glow and preignite fuel at a certain level, but this could be wrong. also copper conducts electricity better then iridium.
