Default Typhoon IM

Hey all, i was thinking about purchasing a IM and came across the Typhoon 85mm. I honestly haven't heard much about this IM and was curious if this a good IM to buy. Is it dependable? Also how does it compare to the LS6? ( I read this info saying it gives more then 17.7hp ). Any comments would be greatly appreciated Thanks

metal compared to plastic
questionable results compared to 6yrs of dyno proven results

go for the LS6...or if you really want to step up...the FAST

If you want a aluminum intake go with a BBK or a Weiand. . . . . I would only use a Typhoon if it was dirt cheap.

don't think they are any better....not sure they are much worse either.

they're better than an ls1 intake...and they can be polished nice.

but the ls6 is just too proven of a performer for me to go with something else....unless it was the FAST.

I have the setup you are talking about, it's been
trouble free for me. I haven't been to the track
since install, been a good while now. The mfr
showed a dyno matchup that says it beats the
LS6 somewhat, which it ought to given the
throat. You can port the aluminum some although
I did not (other than port-matching the heads
to the gasket; the intake dead-matched).

You'll probably hear some stuff about heat soak
but I don't think at the higher RPM there is enough
"time over target" to heat the air significantly.
On the flip side you could ice-bag it at the staging
lane for an actual (though still likely minor)
improvement over plastic, if it's that kind of a party.

There is also a ninety-some mm version. That would
be overkill for a stock- or mild-cam car I believe.

Mine too!!! From what my tuner tells me the BBK makes a litle more power than the ls6 (Like 5-7rwhp I think) but nothing earth shattering. Not sure how much more it weighs. I also ice mine before I run.

i've yet to see a back to back comparison of the BBK over the ls6

so to me....they pretty much make the same power.

so make your decision on other aspects.

looks, price, and whatever else you think is important.

the LS6 is proven....to me the bbk, typhoon, etc...are only speculated.

on my car i KNOW the FAST 90/90 gained me almost 20hp....same day same dyno tuned for each intake.
i can't say i've seen that for the ls6 to bbk swap yet.

Alright i think i'm just gonna go with the ls6 because i've seen on this forum that people mostly use it and get some good power out of it lol, i will be upgrading to a fast later on down the road. Thanks for the help, greatly appreciated
