Default No posi...

So my automatic 99 Z-28 has no posi. car drives fine and very strong at 142,xxx but ill punch it at a low roll (about 5-20mph) and only my passenger tire will spin. Any suggestions besides replacing the gear or rear end? It also does it powerbraking and at a dead stop

Did you buy it used? Maybe someone replaced it before you bought it and did so with a cheap, non limited slip, rear end.

what are you trying to get suggestions for? if you wanna not look like a dummie lol replace the rear or gears. if you want it to hook posi with the rear you have at the track of whatever do a burnout let the tire stop spinning and then power brake it again. the first burnout will heat the PS side up and make it sticky then the DS will spin. atleast my car did that.

Maybe it is the fluid. I just figured they came stock POSI. I'm trying to get suggestions on how to make that DSide spin without replacing the intire rear.

if your car came with a posi with clutches in it they might be worn out.

they did come stock all Z28s and SS did but there is a chance that your car couldve blown the rear and the prev. owner swapped it and didnt do research or whatever. check your rear fluid or check your vin to see if something stupid like its a V6 car with a motor swap and badged lmao

Your car being a 99 should have a zexel torsen unit which has no clutches it uses worm gears to lock itself. Only 98 z28 and 99-02 ss came with an auburn clutch style posi and on the ss cars it was an option. With that said the gear oil should not affect it from locking up its only there to quiet it down. Take the cover off and look inside for broken gears from the torsen. They have no clutches to wear but they are weaker than an auburn and break more frequently. Torsens are lsd not a locker so one wheel will spin a little bit before the other locks up but it shouldnt take long at all.

A very well thought-out and truthful response. Unfortunately you didnt read where he wants it fixed without replacing anything

True true guess its gonna be a one tire fire then for a bit until the torsen completely lets go and destroys the 10 bolt which isnt hard to do with a good posi.

Torsens (stock) are able to spin one tire because
they only split torque 2:1 and that's less than the
static/sliding friction ratio can be, especially when
the right tire lifts from torque reaction.

You can pull the lid on the pumpkin and see what
you'v got. Since Torsens have no preload you can't
tell them from an open diff by how the wheels spin.
