Question How can i quiet down my ls1?

Motor's loud. I have a loud exhaust and the first thing you hear is the engine. I know the LS1 is notorious for "piston slap" but I gotta quiet her down at least a bit. Any tips?

Is the noise coming from your valve-train??? Try some aftermarket roller rockers.

As far as engine noise you could get a engine rebuild that would most likely quite down the car a lot because my car has engine noise and i can hear it in the car over the exhaust also.

ls1's are just noisy. the more you mod them the more they sound like a sewing machine. haha.

HAHA sewing machine... That's the perfect description. Motor only has 66k original miles on it, and is bone stock, so I would hope it's not due for a rebuild yet... When I DO rebuild, I'll try the roller rockers tho, thanks. Is there anything I can do that doesn't require me to pull my engine? It is low mileage, and has recently had some maintenance, have a peek, it looks brand new

you can do roller rockers. that will help. but I use the stock ones even on my 408 and have no issues. besides sounding like a sewing machine. haha. I have also seen ls1's run 150k and 200k before a rebuild. I dont think that is necessary unless you beat on your car a lot. heck I have 120k on mine the 408 is new and the exhaust system but everything else is stock.

You have LT's?

What everyone else said its just the nature of this particular beast. When you go H/C its going to get even louder.

I had 0 engine noise until i did lt's. thought i had an header gasket leak because the valvetrain was so loud. I guess they're thinner than the manifolds so you can hear more.

Amen.

When I had my LT's installed I thought to myself "is it really supposed to sound like this?!" The headers themselves made the biggest difference to me.

Hey OP I see your in Fresno as well. You had your LS1 long? haven't seen many stripped cars around here. Mine used to have them but not anymore.

Gotcha. Unfortunately CA smog laws won't let me have the longtubes, but a Hotcam is definitely on the to-do list. I have Loudmouth II on her right now, which makes a bit of noise and sounds smooth, but the motor noise it's what I wanna smooth out. When the car comes around the corner, you hear sewing machine first, THEN exhaust. Not so cool...

Yeah man, just moved to central CA a few months ago, bought my SS 2 months ago, it's been a hell of a 1/4! Do you know of any meets around the area? Would love to find a Camaro club that meets on a regular basis
