Default Are headers actually worth it?

I know the fast answer for most on here is yes!!! But, if have to put the pita poly motor mounts in and go with a catted y into my existing catback, is it worth all that work. These cars a pain to install headers on from what I hear. I don't want a bangin' Y pipe. How much would it wake my car up and anyone have ideas about cost of purchase AND install. I'm running out of time and don't have access to a lift right now.

Thanks guys.

The sound alone is worth it IMO...

They are worth it only if you want more power and to be a little louder.

You don't NEED poly motor mounts. My Y-pipe didn't bang at all thanks to a friend knowing how to install the headers right. The headers are the best mod IMO. Its what really separates your car from just cat-back cars. The sound is MUCH more BA.

Most people on here will tell you to get the poly motor mounts installed while doing the headers. You most likely will bang your y pipe on the floor of the car if you do not.

Depending on which brand of headers you get it really isn't that bad. It just takes some time and patience.

SLP's problem was always ground clearance.

Ok, let me put it to you this way; If I don't want to bother with the poly mounts, what brand will be least likely to bang.

I have lpp's and their y pipe and they don't bang at all. They have a bumpstop hanger to assure so. Only issue with them is they rub slightly on the k-member when in reverse.

Also headers was the only mods i felt a SOTP gain.

If you're going to be taking the headers off, putting in new mounts really is not that difficult.

Just out of curiosity, why are you against the poly mounts? Is it because of the work involved or what?

Headers are by far the best mod I've done. It turned my car from sounding mean to sounding like the apocalypse. I really couldn't believe how much faster it had gotten when I had the headers and catted y installed. The only time my y pipe scrapes is when I go over speed bumps, and I'll usually try to go at an angle. Kooks headers have great clearance and quality but they are pricey around $800. I had mine installed for next to nothing because I worked at a Cadillac dealership so won't be able to quote you on an install haha.

headers are a popular mod for a reason. i got mine used with a y pipe for $250. didn't do motor mounts and have no bang with 100k miles on my stock mounts. well worth it IMO.

you don't NEEEED $1000 headers, they can be done on a budget and they are still very worth it.

I wouldnt have a fbody without long tubes . getting the car in the air was the most pain to me . I had to jack up all 4 wheels and put some old rims under each wheel. I had to jack the motor up a bit but I had 1 7/8 headers. I hear the reguler size headers you dont have to do this. I went from a best of 13.327 to 12.93

I agree! ....and for the install.. I had mine put on by an individual for $350, they put on headers and y pipe and connected it to borla catback which was already there, and put new plugs and wires in for me. I paid to have it done because I heard header install is a PITA! They also had a lift which made it much easier on them.

Right now Kooks, American Racing, and the newly designed SLP's are all headers that have really stepped up the header game. Very good quality, fit and finish with any of those three.
