Question Tensioner pulley a difficult fix?

My tensioner pulley is a LOUD mother, and I need a new one. But here's the thing, I don't have a whole lot of experience working on the LS1 (hence, newbie tech) but I don't trust anybody to work on my car... lol

There's gotta be someone readin this that has dealt with this before, I know this is a common prob with 4th gens.

So help me out guys, is this somethin a noob could tackle, or should I just bite my nails while someone else touches my baby?

It's easy, a breaker bar w/ socket on the tensioner
bolt. There are folks selling high-lip aluminum pulleys
with bearings, or you can get later model GM ones
(I had to sand backside of the one I got for a CTS,
I think).

its really not a terrible swap. or expensive for that matter either. you can get a Katech pulley that is going to be a top-notch piece, or look in the classified sections to see if anybody is selling one. but really this is something that just about anybody can do.

get a 15mm wrench, put it on the tensioner, remove the belt, get a 15mm socket with a ratchet and remove the two 15mm bolts holding the tensioner.

good luck

I would replace it with a solid tensioner and one that has a high wall lip. I still have a stocker but my SLP U/D pulley has a high wall and mine has never walked or thrown. At some point, I will replace.

I would agree that it's a pretty easy swap.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty confident I can knock it out myself now... Will post again when finished.

If I went w/ one, it would probably be Katech as well. Good Choice!
