i need help!! ok, i wanna help my friend get a f-body.
well we found someone who is selling a 97 t/a, its clean on the inside, leather seats, but the part were wondering about is that is 211,000 miles on it and it had a engine swap. they put a new LT1 one in it, and it has 15k on it. has slp headers and exhaust. when i asked the guy to start it up, it sounded good but had a banging sound to it almost, he said it was a gasket that was bad on the head or something.. i quit didnt get to catch what he said. he is selling it for 5g i dont want my friend to waste his money on a car that will be trouble for him. thanks alot to everyone who helps!

damn, sounds like its been sitting for a while, and did the motor look like it was pretty clean. Cause I mean their shouldnt be a bad head gasket if its low mileage unless it was put together wrong, or somebody didnt look up the tq specs before they tqed it down. And you also gotta look at if the tranny was rebuilt and rearend to cause thats a good amount of miles on both of those.

oh yeah the motor looked clean, everything was nice on it except that knocking sound. he said he just bought it, and that guy before him bought it from the original owner which is a hillbilly guy and his wife drove it and they were the one who put the engine swap on it from what i understand. and now this guy dont want it, he said he wants to sell it for money to put in his gay mustang. im thinking there has to be something wrong with it for that reason or something. thanks for your help guys!

Does it sound like marbles in the jar? Is it constant from start up (assuming cold motor to warmed up), or is it louder based on throttle %. Could be atypical header leak.
See if you cant shoot a video.

it was from a cold start it was like thump thump thump constantly and as it warmed up, we ran it for like 10 min. but i will try to get my friend to take me back over there to get a video. that guy that has it seem like a ok guy so he shouldnt mind.
considering a ls1 fbody these days can be had in the $5xxx area I would say no to that deal. It's a lt1 with a 200k+ body for $5000, you could get a ls1 camaro with a quarter of that mileage for that price!
