Default New to the boards...and i gotta question.

Hey everybody, I'm new to these boards, found the website and it looked kinda interesting. I did a little reading and it seems like you guys know what you're talking about so i gotta question for ya.

I gotta 2001 Sierra with a 5.3L, and I was wondering if

1. I can swap heads from a 6.0L?

2. What will this do for me if I can?

3. Is there anything I need to do other that a simple swap?

If anybody knows, (which by the looks of the kinds of discussions that take place on here, i don't think it should be a problem,) I would really appreciate it. Thanx.

I'm not sure if the larger combustion chambers on the 6.0L will fit your small bore diameter in the 5.3L block. You would definitely lose power doing that swap though, as your compression ratio would drop quite a bit due to the larger combustion chambers on the 6.0L heads. Most of the f-body guys prefer the higher compression ratio of the 4.8/5.3L heads over the standard 5.7L LS1 heads.

If you really want an upgrade, invest in a set of ported/polished LS6 heads and a mild camshaft. With a good exhaust, you can pick up over 100 hp with that setup.

Check out our Truck Performance forum, you will find a ton of answers for your truck in there.

Welcome to the site!

Take the red pill and see how deep the rabbit hole goes...

There is more LS1 knowledge here than you can imagine. Most of it is from real world experience from guys running anywhere from 8's-13's. The bad news is that you will not be the fastest guy here.

alright now I know you said LS6 heads but what about this??

LS1 Stage 2 heads
841 casting numbers
2.02 intake
1.60 exhaust
Less than 1000 miles.
Perfect condition.

Sounds good, why dont you try the LS6 Stage 2 heads, great heads and not a bad price. I wouldnt pay more than 1200 bucks for those, are you going to do a cam swap also. You will also need a good set of headers to let those H/C breath right. Good luck

define ls6 spec. the 5.3's have smaller vavles and different exhaust port shapes.

wellthe reason I ask is because I know a guy whose friend can port and polish my heads to whatever I want (so he says). So I wanted to know what I could do. Would it be a better idea to port myheads or get a set of LS6 heads and port em??
