Someone correct me if I am wrong but if your car can "breathe" better it gets better MPG. SO induction and exhaust.

And my buddy said he got better MPG after he got his tuned as well.

A tune and a few other mods will get you better MPG, but that is if you can keep your foot from stomping on the gas pedal, lol.

Tune helps a lot. These cars are pig rich up top and can afford a little bit of leaning. And although it makes no sense to get them for any reason but mileage (blah), longer gears will help.
Just remember, with these cars it's all about smiles per gallon

Thats why I dumped my 2.73's for some 3.73's. I used to average about 25 with a best of 26 mpg. With just bolt-ons, the gears, and a tune I now average about 20 mpg.

tune will help if the tuner messes with the partial throttle tunning, if not, and they only do WOT tunning, then it will be the same.

good tune up is always best, oil change, air filter change, making sure there is correct tire pressure in all 4 tires. changing the fuel filter. not having a heavy foot. drive like a grandma.

but agreed with lid/lts/exhaust my car breathes a lot better, and i get better gas mileage than stock.

Agreed.

P.S. WTF is wrong with you talking about gas mileage in a sports car? Get a beater, or if you don't like that idea, do what i did. Get another f-body with a 6 cylinder engine and beat that to ****.

i can see everyones point in not caring about MPG but i understand wanting those mods too. if you daily drive your car it only makes sense to do the cheap easy mods that make your car breath better. they give a little performance and a little better MPG.

Thanks for all the info, I have done all those mods you guys mention. I was just wondering if there was anything else I might have missed, maybe a power pulley? I had the car tuned as well, but I don't know what was changed in the tune.

Default Wheels and tires

The weight of the wheels and tires will affect gas mileage. On my stock-engined 1998 240SX, I was getting about 400 miles a tank (about 13 gallons at the pump) with the stock cast 16x6.5 wheels and 205/55R16 tires. When I put on aftermarket cast 18x9.5 wheels and 265/35R18 tires, my mileage went down to 300-320 miles a tank.

There are lots of things under the hood that could affect gas mileage. Spark plugs, fuel (premium is recommended for LS engines, right?)... fuel filter, air filter, oil and oil filter. I saw a small (1-2 mpg) improvement in mileage after changing plugs.

Engine internals get coated with a petroleum "varnish" from oil and gasoline after a while. There are additives and treatments that you can run through the engine to clean out the varnish, and that may improve your mileage too. There's a 40+ page threat on LS1.com about oil where people discuss some of this stuff.

Increase the air pressure in your tires to 36 in the front and 34 in the rear. Traction will take a small hit but it will up your mpg.
