Default Custom cam grind with yellow ls6 springs

Ok, I am trying to get a custom cam grind to go with my LS6 yellow springs. I was thinking to go with the LS6 02-04 specs or can I go a little bigger? I am in a budget and I can not get any better springs at the moment. I have some dual valve springs laying around from REV racing which I have never heard of. I have a 2001 engine with LS6 heads.

If your that strapped for cash, then stop and wait.

How many miles on yellow springs now??

Most cams that you would at least want I think are beyond that spring's ability to handle, and to spend the money twice is retarted.

A honest to god cam swap can be upwards of $1,000.

Cam
Pushrods
Springs
Gaskets
Fluids
Tune
Oil pump
Timing Chain
U/D Pulley (might as well do it now).

The yellow springs are new they came with my new LS6 heads. I have new dual valve springs from REV racing. I would have to get new rocker arms and pushrods? I am getting new oem lifters.

check the specs on the ASA and and you will see their limits. although the yellow springs handle the ASA cam perfectly.525/.525, the yellows will allow for more lift. up .550 advertised/recommended. so stay under .550 and watch the valve events of the ASA and make a middle compromise.

i actually specd out a .540 lift cam ground on the same valve events as the ASA. made amazing power, crazy torque. and would theoretically streetable and wont kill the valve train.and with the 110 lsa had an awesome power band

I bet that was quite the tq.monster and I bet it was 10x more streetable than most other cammed cars. I was going to say OP get a Hotcam 219/228 .525/.525 112lsa or the ASA cam I think the ASA is 228/236 .525/.525 112lsa. Or get Pat G or Comp to custom grind you one. The yellow spring support .550 max lift.

I love this website. If I use my dual springs and titanium retainers, do I have to get new rocker arms and pushrods? Can someone explain to me how a cam works? Sorry if I sound stupid. I got and idea how the rest of the motor works but I still need to learn how cams works. Any links would help.

Nah there's no need to change the rocker arms, but i think the
pushrod's are must. Check out the sticky's in the internal section
if u havent already, it has alot of useful info.

Ok, someone tell me if this is a good idea or not. Should I put the dual valve springs since my engine is out, and do a cam later down the road? I have a friend that helps me out with builds. Buying parts is the problem since I am money short. I have seen cam swaps been done without dropping the engine. Would that be a good idea or not? i am not going to push my motor at all for the first 3000 miles so that gives me time to save for a cam. I will go check out the stickys thanxxx for the help.

if your money short, use all your stock stuff with the yellows and an ASA/custom cam. pushrods are not a must on it. it does have a slightly smaller base circle so guys run 7.425 pushrods instead of stock 7.4. the only thing that gets complained about with stock pushrods is that you have a slight valve train tick like a sewing machine. but no harm done. guys run stock pushrods on an ASA all the time. most guys use all stock valvetrain even on huge cams except for springs. its some pretty diesel **** for stock stuff. so dont worry.
