How long will an LS1 last?

IMO yes!! It is all my cars have seen for over ten years and no oil related failures. I also increase my change intervals to about 4k to help offset the cost a little on the T/A. If I track it a few times I still change it at 3K. 0-w30 German Castrol only. The truck I change when the service oil light comes on....

I thought Synth oil was rated for somthing like 6-8k miles?? That old 'every 3k miles' thing was marketing that they never got rid of. With the detergents in modern oil, unless you race it everyday, in a daily driver situation, you should get at least 5k miles out of your oil, synth or not...

LS1's last FOREVER!! if taken care of properly. my friend has a 99Z that he bought with 30k miles, it had full bolt ons, heads, cam, 150shot. he beat on it and raced it as often as he could, usually a few times a week, and he finally blew the #8 piston, but not until the car had 185k miles!!

Mine let go at 86K in my driveway when I started it. Foot wasn't on the gas. Bent a rod. Regular oil changes and it wasn't abused. I wouldn't sweat a high mileage car because of what happened to mine was probably just one of those things that happen.

At 165K my 2000 Z28 with a lid and my speed density tuning (otherwise completely stock car) beat a 99 SS with a lid and the upgraded SS exhaust (not the rectangle tip silent Z28 exhaust) in a drag race by a car and a half from a stop to the top of third, and it doesn't burn any oil. I think the SS I beat had something like 35-40K miles on it.
That said...everyones experiences will be different, it's not just how you drive the car, there's TON's of other factors involved and you can't put any number on it.
The way mine is running (at like 174K now) I have no clue when it will meet it's end, but it's been VERY good to me even as far as maintenance (I replaced the idler and tensioner pulleys on both belts, plugs, wires and the water pump...thats IT so far at this mileage)...people keep hitting the rest of my poor car
(got rearended tonight)...but I really have no worries about the engine at all.

Like everyone else has been saying, no real timeline. All depends on how it was taken care of, and if its a DD or not. Always remember temperatures are key! With an ls1, you are dealing with aluminum. Aluminum doesn't fare well with extreme changes of temperature. Always make sure the car is running within normal driving temps. Keep an eye on radiator fluid, as well as oil. Running with these fluid low can cause abnormal temps when driving.

mine has 96k and looks and feels brand new...still stock but that will be changing soon. im **** about the car. never is parked outside, never driven in rain or snow. let it warm up before i take off. i still do oil every 3k. even tho its not mandatory id rather spend the 25 dollars to change the oil than have something go wrong. it doesnt eat oil on me either. but my way of thinking is "if it breaks it just means its time to put something bigger badder and faster in its place"

I've got 245K on my original motor and trans and they both work great! haha. Like everyone else says, as long as you take care of it and don't beat the crap out of it, it should last a very long time. I rarely go WOT on mine because it DOES have so many miles so I'm hoping it will hit 300K
