Default LS1 Aluminum Heads Fit On 5.3L?

Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to the LS scene but I just bought a 5.3L engine out of a 2000 Silverado (iron block).

I was just wondering if a pair of aluminum LS1 heads would work on my engine. If so, would I see any gains with those heads and a cam?

Sorry for being such a noob, I searched and didn't find a clear answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You should already have Aluminuim heads, more than likely with a casting Number of 706. Might as well have the stockers ported and put some bigger valves in.

Unless you only got the short block. IN that case if you still wanted to go LS1, might as well step up to the LS6/2/4 Heads, casting #243.

I did get the full engine assembled pulled right out of the truck. I'll check for a casting number tomorrow morning.

Thanks!

They would probably bolt on but not a good idea. The heads won't flow any better and an even lower compression with the 241 heads will actually give up some power. Best bet is to look into a ported set of 5.3L heads and do some milling. That or an aftermarket casting with a small chamber. Let us know if you are looking for a ported head and I'll see what we can come up with!

Thanks for the info guys.

I did check for a casting number today but I can't really get a good look at half of the engine as its sitting against a wall for the next little while. I think I'll end up just keeping the heads I've got and possibly porting them. I want to run a mild cam (DD'ing the car) and don't want any more than 400hp so we'll see how things pan out.

I've got lots of research to do in the next few months. Expect a "help me pick a cam" thread popping up soon.

What's up man?

I've already got 2 LS books and I have an FD-specific book on order.

You think I need new injectors to achieve 375ish hp? I was hoping to keep the stock fuel system...

I'd like to stay away from the bottle just for this build...maybe down the road some time.

well you need everything to compliment eachother. best way is get some 98 ls1 injectors 28lb/hr injectors. im not meaning go out and spend a lot on fuel injectors but atleast upgrade from what you got which i think the 5.3's have 24 or 26's. but every little bit helps. i actually picked up a 5.3l and im gonna do a 383 out of it.
