Question New to LS1's

Hey everyone. I just bought a 2000 grey WS6 and know nothing about mods for these cars. Ive been working with Turbo Buicks for 6 years and wanted to do something new. What are the typical mods done to these cars? Just to give them a bit more pep
Thanks...

Grey?

for starters...

lid
cat-back and/or cutout
FTRA or SSRA
shifter (M6)
converter (A4)

then there is always...

heads & cam
headers
nitrous
supercharger
turbos

...and the list goes on and on

Unfortunately, its an auto. But what is the FTRA and SSRA? And actually its silver. I have a gunmetal grey buick so Im just used to saying that.

FTRA = Fast Toys Ram Air. SSRA = Super Sucker Ram Air. Basically they both double as cold air and ram air setups. As to which one is better.. heh, you decide.

Don't fret that its an auto, if you put a good stall and get on some nitto's it'll be badass.

As they said up there, start with a Lid and catback. Check out the sponsors for parts, I seem to end up looking at www.thunderracing.com most of the time. Welcome to Ls1tech and congrats on the car!

Welcome to the board! Good to see another El Paso person on the board. The SSRA and FTRA are acronyms for the super sucker ram air and fast toys ram air. This is one of the best places to find information on the LS1. You can also run a search on the "free" mods, to start you off. Got anymore questions, feel free to PM (private message) me, and if I can I'll be more than glad to help. Congrats on the LS1, BTW.

Since you have a WS6, you won't need a ram air system. Just remove the inner baffles on the WS6 nostrils (those pop-rivets drill out) and you will have the best direct shot to your airbox of any setup.

Airbox lid for starters, they all perform the same so just get the one you like looks-wise or price-wise. Then, you will find a ton of bolt-ons of any type for that car, the LS1 market has exploded with parts in the last 2 years.

Since you have an A4, spend some time in the converter/automatic forum here. You will definitely want a good stall in there, I'd suggest something in the 3200-3600 rpm range for a daily-driver.

You should defiantly look into purchasing a stall, with some good tires they can net you .8 off your et, and the car will be 10x better from a roll. Dont go lower than a 3500. First you should go ahead and do lid/catback and maybe a good set of LT's. Good Luck

Whats the difference between the lid and the kits that look like the lid is upside down. When you open the hood, the filter is exposed. The SSRA and the FTRA is not for the WS6's, right? This technology for these cars are completely different from the Turbo Regals.

You can use the ssra and ftra on the ws6 but that would prevent air coming in from the hood scoops because you would have to seal the air box. They make a kit called BG Ram Air that is made for the ws6 that seals the hood to the air box and gets a straight shot of air through the hood scoops. The BG Ram Air is the best setup for the WS6

I lost a second off of my ET with the Vigilante 3200 stall converter and a pair of 245/50/16 Nittos. I went from a 13.6 to a 12.6

The kits on LS1's that look like an upside down Airbox with the filter showing are usually aftermarket hoods & Airboxes Suncoast creations makes some of the Hoods & Boxes you are talking about. Some LT1 cars came from the factory with something that looked very similar, like under the hood of an LT1 SS. Go the cheap route and get a lid and Debaffle your hood like nineball said, if you shop around you can get a lid for under $100 and debaffling the hood is free. So for under $100 you should gain 10 rwhp or so.

If I had an auto. I would do something like this.
Lid and free ram air (or FTRA or ARA)
Sub frame connectors & Lower control arms
Converter & Drag radials
Long tube headers & cat back

Start saving for heads/cam package and a rear end

In my opinion the more air the better. That's why I would get the SSRA and not seal it. That way you'll get fresh air from the hood and underneath.

All WS6's are Ram Air cars, including Formulas.

The reason im asking is I have seen alot of TAs with ram air but no WS6 badges on them. I was trying to find out how to distinguish a true WS6 from a copy. Thanks
